Ottawa Police Officer Assigned to Desk Duty after Assault Charge 121917

Ottawa Police Officer Charged

 

(Ottawa)— On December 15th, an Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Member was charged with a Criminal Code of Canada offence.

The 41 year old Ottawa man has been charged by the Public Security Service MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais with one count of Assault causing bodily harm following an incident that occurred on December 14th in the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais jurisdiction, while the officer was off-duty.

The OPS will not release the name of the officer in order to protect the victim’s privacy as this relates to a domestic matter.

The officer has been assigned to administrative duties.

The OPS Professional Standards Section is also investigating the matter and charges may be laid under the Police Services Act.

“This matter is before the courts and it is important that we respect due process,” said Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau. “The Ottawa Police Service expects the conduct of all officers to be of the highest standard and reflective of the values of our community.”

The officer was released on a promise to appear.
