Busy Weekend of Crime in Cornwall Ontario – Police Blotter for February 12, 2024 #cps

FAIL TO COMPLY, ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on Feb. 9, 2024, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with undertaking and assault. It is alleged on Feb. 9, 2024, the woman  was bound by an undertaking with the relevant conditions to not contact her ex-boyfriend and to not be within 100 metres of his residence or anywhere he may be. It is also alleged on this date, the woman was in contact with the man and assaulted him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The woman was located, taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 5, 2024. Her name was not released to protect the identity of the victim.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Kevin Thakkar, 24, of Cornwall, was arrested on Feb. 10, 2024, and charged with impaired operation and over 80. On Feb. 10, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Fourth Street East and Adolphus Street and an investigation ensued. The investigation revealed the man was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2024.

FAIL TO STOP AT ACCIDENT RESULTING IN BODILY HARM

Cornwall, ON – Tina Point, 51, of Akwesasne, was arrested on Feb. 10, 2024, and charged with fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm. On Jan. 23, 2024, police responded to call involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the woman struck a man with her vehicle. On Feb. 10, 2024, the woman attended police headquarters to address the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 21, 2024.

WARRANT, RESIST ARREST, ASSAULT POLICE OFFICER

Cornwall, ON – Ashton Page-Cholette, 23, of Cornwall, was arrested on Feb. 10, 2024, on the strength of an outstanding warrant and charged with resist arrest and assault police officer. It is alleged on Feb 10, 2024, the man was wanted in connection with failing to comply with a conditional sentence order. On this date, the man was located during an unrelated matter. It is also alleged when members of CPS were executing the warrant, the man resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer. The warrant was executed, the man was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

OBSTRUCT PEACE OFFICER

Cornwall, ON – Maelee Masson, 19, of Cornwall, was arrested on Feb. 10, 2024, and charged with obstruct peace officer. On Feb. 10, 2024, police responded to a disturbance call and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, while the investigation was being conducted, the woman obstructed police. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 17, 2024.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 14-year-old youth from Cornwall, and a 15-year-old youth from Newington, were arrested on Feb. 10, 2024, and charged with theft under $5,000. It is alleged on Feb. 10, 2024, the youths attended a Second Street East business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The youths were located, taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. Their names were not released as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.   

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Jesse Light, 30, of Akwesasne, was arrested on Feb. 11, 2024, and charged with impaired operation and over 80. It is alleged on Feb. 11, 2024, police observed a vehicle going the wrong way on a one-way street. A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation ensued. The investigation revealed the woman was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 7, 2024.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – John Laffin, 60, of Hogansburg, NY, was arrested on Feb. 11, 2024, and charged with fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on Feb. 11, 2024, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to stay out of Canada, with the exception of attending for court appearances. On this date, the man attended the Port of Entry, and attempted to enter Canada. He was taken into custody by Canada Border Service Agency officers and turned over to CPS. The man was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Kenneth Gass, 54, of Cornwall, was arrested on Feb. 11, 2024, and charged with fail to comply with probation order and theft under $5,000. It is alleged on Feb. 4, 2024, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is also alleged on this date, the man attended a Ninth Street East business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Feb. 11, 2024, the man was located, taken into custody and charged accordingly. He was released to appear in court on March 21, 2024.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80, OBSTRUCT PEACE OFFICER

Cornwall, ON – Margaret Arquette, 33, of Hogansburg, NY, was arrested on Feb. 11, 2024, and charged with impaired operation and over 80 as well as obstruct peace officer. It is alleged on Feb. 11, 2024, the woman was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody by the Canada Border Services Agency. It is also alleged she resisted arrest. The woman was turned over to CPS, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2024.
