SD&G OPP Easter Weekend Round Up – Over 200 Charged

APRIL 3, 2024 – During the Easter weekend seatbelt campaign that ran from March 29 to April 1, 2024, the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid several charges.

Under the Highway Traffic Act the following charges were laid:

  • 27 seatbelt related
  • 12 stunt driving
  • 122 speeding
  • 82 other

                                     IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

(SOUTH DUNDAS ON) – On March 31, 2024, shortly after 12:00 a.m., SD&G officers conducted a traffic stop on Bank Street in South Dundas Township, for a highway traffic act violation.

Austin AVENDER, aged 31, of Ottawa, was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on April 18, 2024.

On March 31, 2024, shortly after 5:15 a.m., SD&G officers responded to a traffic complaint on county road 7, South Dundas Township. The vehicle was located and stopped for investigation.

John VAN SCHYNDEL, aged 25, of North Dundas was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on April 18, 2024.
