Cornwall ON – When Terry Sayyeau purchased a 50/50 ticket at Cornwall’s Canada Day celebrations she did so to help a good cause, not figuring that she might actual win the pot. The 56 year old told Tri-County Literacy Council’s Don Smith that she’s never won anything in her life. When telephoned with the news that she’d won $867 in the agency’s annual Canada Day draw (ticket # 0259) she couldn’t believe her ears and kept asking: “is this a joke?” She was assured that it was no joke.
Sayyeau, who operates a home day care, says that the money will enable her to purchase a household item that she’s been wanting for some time. Tri-County Literacy operated the Canada Day Bingo at Lamoureux Park as well as the draw. Proceeds will be used in support of the agency’s programs, many of which are free to the community.
