CFN – It was a busy day on the grass in front of the Long Sault Shopping Centre. We knew it was going to be busy when early shoppers started asking Andrew from Avonmore Berry Farm for corn before he even opened the tail gate on his truck. By the time he got his tent up there was a steady stream of customers. As you can see from the picture above they are still harvesting those sweet luscious strawberries and more and more apples are ripening.
As part of our mandate at the Long Sault Market, we are proud to provide space for community fundraisers. This week the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation of Canada set up a tent to host a bake sale to raise funds for their cause.
It was a good day for all of us vendors. There was the usual rush for the Friday Thai fix at Thai to Go. The squares, cookies, and gluten free scones at Daisy Street Cakes were selling like hotcakes. Hoople Creek Farm had Russian garlic on their table among other organic produce. The tomatoes and peppers were red and ripe at the Ingleside Tomatoes booth. Swiss Farmer Bakery had their usual decadent baked treats. Jars of sweet delight were moving off of Clarkburn Farmer’s table (being sold that is) and Crystal’s Bowtique and Little Bird Sewing were busy selling their crafts as well.
Rumour has it that the market will be growing by to more vendors. OK, it’s not a rumour but a reality. We have a new canned goods vendor who has his own style of preserves, pickles, beets, jams and we have a homemade fudge and chocolate entrepreneur.
Yes, I said “HOMEMADE FUDGE AND CHOCOLATE”!
Be sure to make time on Friday afternoon to come and join us on the grass in Long Sault. The market is open from 2 PM to 6 PM every Friday afternoon until October 11th, rain or shine, unless there is a tornado warning, then we may close early.
And remember, if you come early for corn, at least give Andrew time to get his tent up.
What a terrific market ! A nice mix of vendors, friendly service & yes Reg, terrific coffee !
God bless you Bill! Now that you know what to expect you should come out more often. I’ll have a Coffey’s Coffee cup for you.
