Suspect charged for possession of stolen property
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been investigating a series of theft incidents that occurred within the past few weeks. Patio furniture was targeted and was stolen from porches, balconies and backyards. These incidents occurred mainly in the Hawkesbury and L’Orignal area.
On Thursday June 16th 2016, following an investigation conducted by Constable Stephanie Fortin-Provost, the Hawkesbury Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police executed a search warrant at a residence on McGill Street in Hawkesbury.
As a result of the execution of the search warrant, stolen patio furniture was recovered such as, dining sets, sectionals, loungers, cushions, umbrellas and lawn ornaments.
39-year-old, Julie PIETTE, of Hawkesbury was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:
– 354(1)(a) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
She was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on June 29th 2016.
Several recovered stolen property has been returned to their rightful owners however Investigators have yet to locate owners of some patio sets, folding chairs and umbrellas recovered during the search warrant. The owners are asked to contact Constable Stephanie Fortin-Provost or Detective/Constable Steve Hamel to retrieve their property.
