THEFT OF TIRES FROM CAR DEALERSHIP

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a theft of tires from the Hawkesbury Honda dealership situated on County Road 17 in Champlain.  The incident occurred overnight on Thursday November 10th.

The culprits broke into containers stealing several sets of tires and rims valued at several thousand dollars.

The matter is still under investigation.

Similar occurrences were reported within the past few weeks from other car dealerships and tire businesses in the area.  The Hawkesbury OPP wishes to remind businesses that everyone has a role in crime prevention and in reducing the potentials of criminal acts.  Business owners are advised to be particularly vigilant when utilizing containers for storage.  The way to discourage a thief from victimizing your property is to take away the opportunities. Extra precautionary measures should be considered such as ensuring containers are in well-lit area and preferably visible to motorists and neighbours. The use of hunting cameras installed in proximity could assist police in a theft investigation.

If you have any information about this matter, please contact Constable Dominique Sauve at the Hawkesbury O.P.P. Detachment at 613-632-2729 or 1-888-310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.  Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to Call Display.  Your call will stay anonymous and your presence won’t be needed in court.

Police need the help of everyone in order to fight crime efficiently. It is important to remember the Crime Triangle. Whenever a theft is committed there are always three components present:

A CRIMINAL,  an OPPORTUNITY and a VICTIM.

The way to discourage a thief from victimizing your property is to take away the opportunities (or reducing them). This is where persons can protect themselves most.

Another means of protecting yourself is to have good communications with your neighbours.

If you see something suspicious …

Write down the description of any suspicious persons. Get the make, model, color, and license number of strange vehicles. Call the police and other members of your neighbourhood immediately.

Watch For:

– Suspicious persons or activities.
– Write down license plate numbers and descriptions.
– Vehicles passing by numerous times, suspiciously parked or constantly traveling alleyways.

Protect Yourself By:

– Good lighting
– Good lock security
– Let a trusted neighbour know when you are on vacation

MAKE THE EFFORT! BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR NEIGHBOURS

IT’S TIME FOR WINTER TIRES

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP Detachment would like to remind the community that every year, winter tends to take people by surprise. Winter tires are an important part of being prepared for what Mother Nature may send our way.

Transport Canada recommends the following:

Install four winter tires – To help maintain control and stability of your vehicle in icy conditions, Transport Canada and the Rubber Association of Canada recommend that you install winter tires in sets of four.

Mixing tires with different tread patterns, internal construction, and size degrades the stability of the vehicle and should be avoided.

As a tire wears, snow traction is reduced. Tires that are worn close to the tread-wear indicators have reduced traction and should not be used on snow-covered roads or in severe snow conditions.

Proper air pressure extends tread life, improves safety, and reduces fuel consumption — all vital factors in saving energy and protecting the environment. Tire pressure decreases as temperatures drop, so be sure to check the pressure at least once a month when the tires are cold, preferably after the car has been out all night.

Snow will soon be falling in many parts of Canada, and it’s important to get ready for slippery and sometimes unpredictable driving conditions.
