FLOOD ALERT For Cornwall Ontario Region SUNDAY Oct 29, 2017

Cornwall Ontario – Roads had some stretches of flooding early Sunday morning before the real rain arrived.  This writer saw a massive pool of water on Second Street at 8:30 AM near Food Basics.

Over 100 mm of rain are expected to fall in the area before the storm eases up on Tuesday.

Expect high winds to further exacerbate conditions.   As well as possible power failures.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

50 to 100 mm rainfall event today and tonight.

An area of rain associated with a slow moving cold front will continue to move into Eastern Ontario today. The rain will become especially heavy at times tonight as a strong low pressure area from the Atlantic crosses New England this evening and then goes into Southern Quebec by Monday morning.

Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm are expected by Monday morning as a result.

Strong and gusty westerly winds are expected in the wake of the low pressure area on Monday.

For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry District office.

If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

  1. This morning hubby and I decided to walk inside of St. Laurent Shopping Centre before going out to Wal Mart and we didn’t venture out to the park in this weather. In one of the hallways near Sears the roof is leaking, here in my building the laundry room is closed – flooding, where my daughter works the ceiling leaks when there is heavy rain. Some of the streets are flooded like on St. Laurent B
