Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 351 calls for service over the weekend of October 27-29, 2017. Of these, 241 calls occurred in the city central area, 66 in the west end, 13 in the east end, and 9 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 11 domestic calls
  • 8 assault calls
  • 1 sexual assault
  • 4 harassment calls
  • 2 weapons offence calls
  • 12 fight/disturbance calls
  • 12 undesirable calls
  • 3 customer trouble calls
  • 3 custody dispute calls
  • 11 alarm calls
  • 2 neighbour dispute calls
  • 31 noise complaints
  • 1 trouble with kids call
  • 7 missing person calls
  • 4 Mental Health Act calls
  • 5 medical assist calls
  • 30 assist citizen calls
  • 5 break and enter calls
  • 28 theft calls
  • 5 shoplifting calls
  • 1 theft of vehicle call
  • 8 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 26 motor vehicle collisions
  • 3 impaired driving calls
  • 9 parking/vehicle complaints

There were 12 individuals arrested over the weekend of October 27-29, 2017 including 10 men and 2 women, between # and # years of age, for the following: possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, transportation fraud, theft, possession of stolen property, mischief, possession of break-in tools, assault, assault cause bodily harm, breach recognizance, and breach probation.

Officers Catch Thief Minutes after Smash and Grab

A 45-year-old local man caught within minutes after breaking into a parked car and stealing a laptop.

On October 28, 2017 at approximately 12:15 p.m. the accused was seen checking out vehicles parked in the Memorial Centre parking lot. The accused smashed out a side window on a vehicle and then reached in a grabbed a laptop before fleeing south.

Within five minutes responding officers located the accused in a nearby parking lot. The accused had the stolen laptop in his backpack and was found to be concealing a pair of scissors in his underwear. Personal identification of another person was found on the accused as well, linking him to the theft from another parked car.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of theft, possession of stolen property, mischief, and possession of break-in tools.

Man Arrested at Court Appointment after Assault the Day Before

A 21-year-old Arden man was arrested when he attended his court appointment the day after assaulting his girlfriend.

On October 26, 2017 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the accused and the victim were walking on Wright Crescent. During an argument over their relationship the accused became angry with the victim and punched her in mouth. The accused suggested she get medical attention and then fled the area.

On October 27 at approximately 1:30 p.m. the accused was located when he attended an appointment he had at court. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault and assault cause bodily harm.

Youth Pulls Knife on Cab Driver

A 14-year-old local youth has been arrested after wielding a knife to get out of paying a taxi fare.

On October 30, 2017 at approximately 12:30 a.m. the accused arrived at an address on Bayridge Drive by taxi. When the cab driver asked for payment the accused refused and pulled a knife on her. The accused fled on foot and police were called. The investigation led officers to nearby address where the accused was located in his residence.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was later released with a future court date.

The accused was charged with possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, and transportation fraud.

13 Vehicles Taken Off the Road during One Day Safety Inspection

On October 26, 2017, members of the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment, Ontario Provincial Police and Kingston Police Traffic Unit conducted a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) inspection in Napanee. As a result of the CMV inspection:

  • 33 Commercial Motor Vehicles were inspected and 1 non-commercial motor vehicle was inspected (pickup)

  • 13 of the vehicles inspected were taken out of service for various mechanical and driver issues.

  • A 39% out of service rate

  • 22 charges were laid

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify Suspect using Stolen Credit Card

On September 29, 2017 the victim’s purse and credit card were stolen from a bar in the downtown Princess Street area. The suspect used the stolen card to make purchases at multiple stores in the same area.

The suspect is described as a white female, larger in size with blonde hair.

Police Asking for Assistance to Identify Shoplifter

On October 26, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the suspect entered a grocery store on Princess Street. The suspect was pulling a small black case in which he put over $400 worth of baby formula inside before leaving the store without paying. Store security approached the suspect outside at which point he abandoned the merchandise and fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6’1” tall, 200lbs, wearing glasses and approximately 30 years of age.

KINGSTON POLICE COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

PUMPKIN PATROL- “watching out for kids’ safety”

The Kingston Police Community Volunteers will hit the streets again this Halloween. The Volunteers and St Lawrence College Police Foundations students will be dedicating their time to keeping Halloween safe and fun for all. They will be the friendly eyes and ears that dedicate themselves to ensuring Halloween night in Kingston is a treat.

On the evening of the 31st, starting at 6:00 p.m. approximately 40 volunteers and students wearing traffic vests will be patrolling throughout the city either by walking or in police vehicles to ensure little ghouls and goblins stay safe.

The St. Lawrence students will stay out until 10:00 p.m. and the Community Volunteers will continue out on patrol as needed after that time.

Here are a few Halloween safety tips for parents and children:

  • Children should walk, not run, from house to house and stay on the sidewalk or at the side of road, facing traffic. They should only cross the road at the corner and look both ways before crossing.
  • Choose costumes that are loose enough to be worn over warm clothing, but not baggy enough that children trip over them.
  • Have an adult look over candy. “If in doubt, trash it” and contact Kingston Police.
