The problem with voting people in like Bernadette Clement, Elaine Macdonald, and Maurice Dupelle is that you gradually kill your community.
A few years ago they started to kill off yard sales by putting in a yearly limit.
Now they’ve eliminated them citing COVID 19 as a reason.
Mayor Clement mentioned it in her nearly unseen video message and today the Cornwall Police cracked the whip.

Bernadette delivered the news. It was the provincial government that killed garage sales for now. “On March 28, 2020, the Ontario government issued an emergency order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to prohibit organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people.”
Sorry, but that’s a cop out. Not all garage sales have oodles of people at the same time, and you can control how many people attend at one time and ask for public spacing. The government of Ontario did not ban garage sales. They are trying to use one ruling to fit what they want.
Agreed. The Ontario gov’t suggested that people not have or attend garage sales. I think it’s a good suggestion until we are in a better place.
I know I would not want to be a politician right now. Right now it’s a very hard job and I wouldn’t want that responsibility of having to make the decisions they have to make. We may not like politicians sometimes, but now is not a good time.
“GARbAGE SALE” better describes what is most often the offerings of trash pickers. There are too many of these “one man’s trash is another man’s”… well, trash sales.
But worse… it’s a sad commentary on Cornwall’s socio-economic plight, when too often it’s disgusting used stuffed articles, and many-times handled junk, and re-garage sales, that is desperately flogged for a few dollars.
Hugger please provide a link to the Ontario Government providing guidance on garage sales. There is nothing agreed.
It was suggested by one of the Ontario ministers that people not have garage sales. I can’t recall which one. Thus there is no link to provide guidance on garage sales. The minister never said garage sales were banned. They just said they suggested that people not do it. There has already been one garage sale or attempted garage sale in Cornwall. The pics of the signs were on FB yesterday.
