May 17th – International Day Against Homophobia

This just in from Paul Aubin:

Sunday, May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia.  As part of our observation of the day we’re pleased to announce the nominees for this year’s Denise and Louis Latulippe Award.  Created in 2005 and named after the founders of the Cornwall chapter of PFLAG, it goes to the person in the community who has done the most to promote tolerance and acceptance of LGBT people in Cornwall and SD&G over the past twelve months.

The nominees for this year’s award are:

  • ROGER FRAPPIER for developing educational programs and hosting seminars that promote tolerance and diversity to young people
  • JOA GAMELIN for her incredible performance as the hostess of Pride 2008 and her passionate belief in acceptance and equality of all people
  • ELAINE MacDONALD for her unwavering support of the Queer community and human rights in her roles as city councillor, educator, labour activist and friend to all

Please visit the Cornwall and Area LGBTQ Yahoo Group via this link for details on how you can vote for the candidate you feel is most deserving.  The award will be presented at this year’s Spring Fling on Friday, May 29th.  For more information about the International Day Against Homophobia, please visit www.homophobiaday.org.  For more information about PFLAG, please visit www.pflag.ca.

Please forward this email freely.  Hope to see you at the Spring Fling.
