What you should do

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

It is not safe to taste or eat raw dough or batter regardless of the type of flour used, as raw flour can be contaminated with harmful bacteria such as E. coli O121. Food contaminated with E. coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

Background

This recall was triggered by findings by the CFIA during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

Illnesses

There have been reported illnesses associated with flour; however, at this time, there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the products identified in this Food Recall Warning.

There are many people who work around food and are not clean at all. In past years you had to go through health checks and the places had to be inspected. Today stores are full of rats and mice, etc. People who work around food are no longer inspected by health officials and you wonder why all the contamination. You would all be shocked to know the conditions of the stores.

One thing about Cornwall’s stores is that they are very clean in comparison to Ottawa’s stores. Where my daughter works it is very dirty and I won’t go into it because people would be mighty sick to know.

The stores are still inspected, not as often as before, but they still are inspected. Blame cutbacks. As for people working with food they still have to meet minimum standards.

Arrggghhhh!!!!!

Jamie it is one of those mighty rare miracles that I made and yes that is one of the mighty few. I am using Robin Hood flour just now and have been and no problems. I checked the dates, etc. when I purchased it. Hugger if the inspector went on a surprise visit where my daughter works they would close it down but they are bribed and that is why they are still open in operation.

I am making pizza for the family and using flour and have been for some time and all is well. There are the flour mills that are contaminated and rats and mice and even the food like meat and veggies, etc. are contaminated. You would never believe it unless you work in such places. I would not want to make anyone sick. We see it all the time. My daughter heads to the bath before touching anyt

No I haven’t tried the organic flours at all in Morrisburg and hubby was talking about going down that way. Do you have the address where to find that place? I made a pizza and everyone is surviving and not sick. Jamie if you knew about the stores here – OMG – I will not talk it is really really bad. The people who work with my daughter are sickened by what they know.

Thank you so very much Jamie I will look at it as soon as I get my dishes done and a few other things. I sure will recommend your site and it is the best anywhere which I will say Ottawa or anywhere I love it. Hubby loves organic eggs from farms and hates what we buy here in Ottawa. Hubby makes his own yogurt and nothing like it. Everything from farms is best.

Hubby planted the herbs and tomatoes on the balcony this morning. We have to use this method since no yard – I live in the “penthouse” LOL LOL. high in the sky. A man from Ottawa used to live around here but works in Alberta oil sands had a good laugh with me about “Penthouse” and he said without the penthouse price. He went back out to Alberta with his wife and kids.

We sure will visit that store that you sent me. Hubby loves farm produce. Fresh veggies here I come. We have beefsteak and cherry tomatoes out on the balcony. Hubby put in rosemary, mint, oregano and some other herb that escapes me just now. We love gardening and that is what I miss about not having a house. Here below me in a townhouse built in 1960 smaller than my apt. costs over $300K.

Organic cheese hubby will be sold on that one as well. I make food from scratch here at home even Lebanese food that takes a long time to make. Today I took the bread dough that makes those meat and spinach pies and made pizza with it and nothing like home made. Tomorrow we are going to have spaghetti and we don’t eat that very often and for us it would be a change.

Jamie you made me so very hungry about all what that market in Morrisburg offers. We will be visiting there. The weather is horrible just now with rain almost every day. As soon as the weather clears we will be going down to Morrisburg and that little town is one of our favorites along with Ingleside.

I know who Tom Manley is and he is of good people. I knew Tom’s brother and wife from a mighty long time ago. Yes Tom Manley has vision. Jamie does Tom Manley own that Farmer’s Market in Morrisburg? The Manley’s are from Finch.

Jamie that is good news. Tom Manley is in with other people on this venture and that is great news. I prefer organic food to the garbage that we are buying here in Ottawa. There is a store in the Glebe called Whole Foods which is American and they call themselves organic and highly expensive and full of tricks. We never went there at all.
