Featured Artist Profile
Our first Artist to be featured for Art Court is area Artist Jacqueline Milner who is being profiled by our own Lorna Foreman. Ms Foreman will be writing most of the profile’s for Art Court.
Local photographer and artist, Jacqueline Milner admitted that the environment plays a big role in the art she produces. While she still spends most of her creative energy as a photographer – doing weddings, portraits, illustrative photography – more and more she is producing work using acrylic paint.
“My work expanded,” Jacqueline told me. “It led to adding photographs to a canvas and using acrylic paints to create mixed media work.”
As an environmental columnist for Cornwall Free News, it is obvious her love for the environment colours what she does.
Her first series “Trees for Thought” has been exhibited many times at a variety of ecological events. These beautiful, haunting paintings remind me of the fragility of these magnificent, important part of our world.
“I painted through school.” Jacqueline said. “and even then I gravitated towards sketching trees.”
Both Jacqueline and I agree that while winter might be cold, and not always what we want, it is then that we see the true beauty of the trees without their leaves; their skeletons silhouetted against the sky.
Jacqueline is currently part of the Annual Juried Show at the Cornwall Regional Gallery. It runs until March 5, 2010.
