CORNWALL – He beats people up with a 2×4 and the fans love him for it. Now Hacksaw Jim Duggan is returning to Cornwall tonight for a wrestling match at Murphy’s Inn.
The show starts at 7:30pm.
He’s the only wrestler to knock out Andre the Giant.
“Knocking out Andre the Giant had a huge impact on my career. It moved me from mid-card to main event status,” Duggan explains.
He is also the first-ever winner of the Royal Rumble in 1988.
Duggan recently appeared in the 2009 WWE Royal Rumble but was eliminated by The Big Show.
“The Big Show is the more overwhelming giant, but Andre was the better giant,” Duggan said, comparing wrestling’s two biggest competitors of the past 30 years.
Duggan has scored victories over superstars such as Shawn Michaels, Dino Bravo, and even Yokozuna. He also tagged and won a Survivor Series match with Hulk Hogan.
He won his first-ever championship belt by defeating Steve Austin in his debut match at WCW.
However, Duggan’s battles haven’t been restricted to the wrestling mat, or even the steel cage, as he won a life-and-death struggle with kidney cancer.
Early in his career he also overcame knee injuries that limited his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons, but this opened a new opportunity for him as a wrestler.
The NFL is popular in North America, but according to Duggan wrestling is popular all over the world.
“It worked a lot better for me,” he said. “I’ve been wrestling for over 30 years. I’ve been to Chile, Australia, Paris, Tokyo, and all over the world.”
In 2005 Duggan returned to the WWE, and he is currently the most experienced wrestler on the WWE roster.
“It is great to do something I love again. Especially at my age, where I probably only have a few more years where I can wrestle,” Duggan said.
Duggan still enjoys wrestling in the independent circuit and acting as a scout for upcoming talent.
“My advice to the younger guys is always have something to fall back on, follow your dreams, but have something to fall back on,” he said.
Hacksaw will be wrestling Misery The Barbarian in Cornwall.
“The Cornwall show is going to be a great family show, with lots of great young talent, and no profanity,” Duggan said. “I’ll be signing autographs, and taking photos with the fans whom I really appreciate for all their support”.
Also on the card, Hannibal wrestles Sexxxy Eddie, and Jeremy Prophet faces former WWF tag team wrestler Pierre Carl Oulette of the Quebecers.
Advance tickets are available at Phatty Kats, and at the Murphy’s Inn venue hosting the show.
