Sometimes events say they’re sold out. The Vagina Monologues as a fund raiser for ( SASS) Sexual Assault Services for Women of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, and Akwesasne was truly sold out. I think they even mercifully allowed some standing room so nobody would be left out of this stunning event.
Could you imagine this being presented in Cornwall twenty years ago; never mind filling such a large room? It shows how Cornwall isn’t that old mill town anymore. There is culture. There are people sensitive to important issues who will show up and support an important cause.
That this event was such a success in spite of it being on the same night as the Mayor’s Celebration of the Performing Arts at the Aultsville theatre is even more mind blowing.
Congrats to Director Lori Taylor for leading her cast through the show. There were some really fine performances from Holly Basuman, to Kymberly Meade, and the whole room shook at Elizabeth Sapena’s performance although I can’t share much of her monologue in print!
The whole cast was superb; the sound super, and the crowd truly responsive and appreciative. We’re hoping to have a few photos submitted to the event because I went as a spectator with my wife and was not working the event.
Hopefully next time there’ll be a larger room or more than one performance. To learn more about SASS click their logo below.
