Evening of Hope – Cornwall rallies to help Haiti
Following the earthquake which occurred in Haiti this last January 12, reconstruction of the country has become a priority for Canadians. In Cornwall, the community is rallying to organize a fund-raising night for Haiti.
Child Haven International and MEL Productions are organizing a fund raising evening on March 27, 2010, at the General Vanier Intermediate School Auditorium, 1500 Cumberland Street, Cornwall. Starting at 7:00 pm, various artists from Montreal, Gatineau, Cornwall and the surrounding area will meet on stage to present an outstanding show. Music, dance and songs will be offered to the public by harpist Lucie Gascon, singers Ida Khan, Marie Alice Marcel and Yanick Dutelly, guitar player and singer Louto Roumain, the dance troupe Asôtô, and the band Tchaka Noula.
“Haiti will need our help for a long time”, assert the organizers of the evening. Doctor N. H. Shah says: “We must continue to support this country so badly affected by the earthquake.” For his part, Doctor Claude Manigat adds: “This catastrophe is unprecedented and defies description. If left alone, Haiti will not make it through this crisis. The community of Cornwall also wants to make a contribution.”
Admission is $20 per person. Profits will go to the CECI – Centre d’études et de coopération internationale / Centre for International Studies and Cooperation, and to the Canadian Red Cross.
