Breastfest: Who do you wear pink for? by Marina Restinetti
Cornwall ON – A pink elephant would have blended into the crowd of people who came out to support Cornwall’s 1st Annual Breastfest held at the Spotlight behind City Limits Bar and Grill on Saturday night April 10.
The breast cancer fundraiser, organized by 10 second year Social Service Worker (SSW) students from St. Lawrence College, raised a few cents short of $1165 with proceeds being donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“I had been to a similar event in Embrun, ON called Boobfest and was totally inspired,” said student and organizer Sheri Cuillerier.
The function was fueled by a newly introduced class in the SSW program called Community Development where students are encouraged to get involve in the community and are guided on how to do so.
“Although this was a school project, I want to continue hosting this event [yearly] with help from my friends and family,” added Cuillerier.
The event included DJ music, door prizes donated from local sponsors and “Breastmopolitans” accompanied by a $2 donation made with each purchased.
Student organizers included:
Sheri Cuillerier
Joanne Crothers
Mathieu Brunet-Lefebvre
Cindy Sampson
Kaity Badger
Julie Piette
Kayla Point
Krista L’Ecuyer
Kayla Buiting
Juan Quiroga
