Cornwall ON – Peter Stoffer may have been the guest of honour but the real stars of last night’s Tommy Douglas Fund raiser were the local Federal NDP riding association that blew by their fund raising goal of $6,000.00 for the evening.
Darlene Jalbert will now have over $3500.00 added to her war chest in her goal to dethrone incumbent Guy Lauzon in the upcoming Federal election in addition to the over $7,000.00 raised in the evening from funds matched by the NDP.
The NDP really know how to throw a party locally; this time at The Cornwall Golf and Country Club. The night was well attended and all of the local media attended with the exception of the Corus radio stations.
One of the highlights was Cornwall City Councilor Elaine MacDonald’s rousing opening welcome speech.
Councilor Mark MacDonald was also on hand for the evening as well as former MPP for Cornwall & Cornwall Township, George Samis. The capacity crowd enjoyed a lovely evening which also included a silent auction for a day with MP Stoffer in Ottawa.
