Cornwall ON – The drums are still faint in the far distance. October is coming, but July should start to firm up the election plate here in Cornwall Ontario.
So far it looks like nobody is willing to take on Mayor Bob Kilger. An old news hound here in Cornwall suggested that if Mayor Kilger runs unopposed the voter turnout out will be much diminished. I’m not sure that’s true, but it certainly isn’t looking to be a terribly exciting election at this point.
The majority of the incumbents are back again for another round. At this point only Councilor Kim Baird has announced she’s not going to run. Bernadette Clement as the Federal Liberal Nominee may not be able to run, and while the majority remaining haven’t announced that they’re running the rumblings is that they are all gearing up.
So far there are only 3 new candidates running, but a few more may be coming out of the wood work and a few names such as Brian Lynch, Joe Gunn, Jason Setnyk, and Chris Savard have been added because of rampant gossip.
We’ll be doing profiles and report cards of each candidate starting in July.
