Cornwall ON – The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) made or assisted in contraband tobacco seizures in the following regions between July 8th, 2010 and July 20th, 2010:
- 2 seizures at the Cornwall, Ontario Port of Entry
- 3 seizures in Cornwall, Ontario
- 7 seizures in South Glengarry, Ontario
- 1 seizure in South Stormont, Ontario
These seizures resulted in the arrest of nine individuals who face charges under the Excise Act 2001 and/or the Provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped:
1 from Cornwall, Ontario,
4 from Akwesasne, Ontario, 2 from Hogansburg, New York,1 from Finch, Ontario1 from Moose Creek, Ontario
Items Seized:
• 11 vehicles described as 2004 Ford F150 pick-up truck, 2006 Ford E250 cargo van, 1999 Dodge Caravan, 2004 Chevrolet Venture van, 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, two 1999 GMC Suburban’s, 2000 GMC Jimmy, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, 1996 Chevrolet pick-up truck• 2 vessels described as a 1 duck boat with a Evinrude VRD motor, one 4.27 metre fishing boat with a Mercury 25 HP outboard motor• 19,400 re-sealable bags each containing 200 contraband cigarettes • 100 cartons of Tomohawk brand flavoured little cigars• 362 kilograms of fine cut tobacco contained in 20 garbage bags• twelve 1.75 litre bottles of Wiser’s De Luxe Blended Canadian Whiskey• twelve 1.75 litre bottles of Bacardi Superior Rum• twelve 1.75 litre bottles of Smirnoff Vodka• one hundred and fifty .36 litre cans of Bud Light Beer

During this period, the CRTF assisted officers from the Canada Border Services Agency. Other support units assisting the CRTF were the Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit and the RCMP’s Marine Security Enforcement Team. The CRTF continues to address the complaints by local residents of suspicious activity.
