Cornwall ON – Just about every month Joe Aiello of Moustache Joe’s fame and his family bistro in Downtown Cornwall Ontario host a wine tasting evening. Five or six delectable different wines get sampled over a gargantuan flavour feast of foods served as they only can be found at Moustache Joes.
It’s all about the freshness. You start with the freshest highest quality food and then the magic of generations of skill and art deliver. Mix in distinct vintages and aromas to the palette and voila; an evening of magic and good company.

The tasting plate above was carefully designed as each wine was unveiled. There was a Trius Brut, a Sauvingnon Blanc, Private Reserve Chardonnay, and Private Reserve Gamay Noir all from Peller Estates as well as a 2008 Trias Red. They were all complemented by the Prosciuto with melon, salmon, tomato and herb bruschetta, walnuts, lucious paté, cherries, and wedge of Brie.
And then the main course was served along with the dinner wine which was Trias Cabernet Sauvignon which fully complemented the Rib Steak which was cooked to perfection.
The home run for me was the stuffed Portobello mushroom. Asiago, Ricotta, Parmesean, Mozzerella with hints of spinach, garlic, and the freshest of herbs made this treat a highlight.
The photos just don’t do justice to the epicurean delight this simple and powerful meal delivered.
The desert was a charming creme brulé accompanied by a 2007 Trius Vidal Ice wine.
People from as far away from Ottawa traveled to feast and enjoy the fine wines for the evening. The next wine tasting at Moustache Joes is Tuesday September 28.
It’s by Reservation only as the restaurant is closed to the public for these events and they’re very reasonably priced at only $75 per person.
To find any of these wines please check with the LCBO or your local wine shop.
