Cornwall ON – I don’t think the Montreal Canadiens have ever had two Jewish players at the same time? The Habs signed veteran Jeff Halpern to a one year contract yesterday to add some grit and depth down the middle.
Halpern scored 19 points in 71 games last season split between Los Angeles and Tampa Bay. Purely a depth pick up to replace Glen Metropolit who’s gone on to play in Europe.
The Princeton grad’s most prolific year was in 2003, just before the strike when he scored 46 points for the Washington Capitals. His $600K salary leaves the Habs with some cap room and also fills their roster.
