32 Arrested in Marijuana & Illegal Cigarette Busts – Cornwall Ontario – September 15,2010

THE CORNWALL REGIONAL TASK FORCE ARRESTS 32 INDIVIDUALS FOR POSSESSION OF CONTRABAND TOBACCO AND SEIZES THOUSANDS OF MARIHUANA PLANTS

Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) made several contraband tobacco and marihuana plant seizures in the following regions between August 25th, 2010 and September 14th, 2010:

  • 5 seizures in Cornwall, Ontario
  • 10 seizures in South Glengarry, Ontario
  • 4 seizures in South Stormont, Ontario
  • 3 seizures in North Stormont, Ontario
  • 2 seizures in North Glengarry, Ontario
  • 1 seizure in Williamsburg, Ontario

These seizures resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals who face charges under the federal Excise Act 2001 and/or the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped:
16 from Cornwall, Ontario,
3 from Akwesasne, Ontario, 2 from Monkland, Ontario, 1 from Ottawa, Ontario, 1 from Richmond, Ontario, 3 from Kahnawake, Quebec, 1 from St. Isidore La Prairie, Quebec, 1 from Beaconsfield, Quebec, 1 from Hogansburg, New York

And
also resulted in the arrest and charges of the following three individuals:
Kenny Russell (age 44) from South Glengarry, Ontario;
Travis Delormier (age 23) from Hogansburg, New York; Adam Bailey (age 30) from Brockville, Ontario

Items Seized:
• 21 vehicles • 5 vessels described as a Yamaha Powerboat with a 30HP motor, Bombardier Sea doo Boat, Fishing boat with a 25HP Mercury Sea Pro motor, 5 metre Sunray fibreglass boat, Jet boat with a 150 litre Mercury motor • 2 camping trailers • 4 boat trailers • 22,108 re-sealable bags and cartons each containing 200 contraband cigarettes • 1,110 kilograms of fine cut tobacco contained in 62 garbage bags • 104 cartons of PT brand little cigars in various fruit flavours • 8,860 marihuana plants.

The marihuana seizures were a result of the eradication done by the CRTF who worked with the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, the Cornwall Integrated Criminal Intelligence Section and RCMP Air Services.  No arrests were made during the seizures of the marihuana plants.  If anyone notices suspicious activity, please contact the CRTF at 613-937-2800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
