Cornwall ON – Councilor Denis Thibault is running for re-election to City Council this year and we’ve sent out our mini Proust Quiz to him and several other candidates.
Here are his answers:
CWFN: What would be the biggest surprise that people don’t really know about your?
DT : I think the biggest surprise that many people don’t know about me is that I manage two not for profit corporations, own a small business called Technology Dimensions and am a silent partner in a travel agency
CWFN: What makes you passionate for being Mayor or Councilor?
DT: This City of Cornwall is in a position to finally lead Ontario as an area of positive growth. Twenty five years ago the unemployment rate was 24% and now it’s down to below 8% and that can be confirmed by Freeholder headlines of which I have a copy.
CWFN: What’s been the weirdest thing to ever happen to you in your career?
DT: Grand Chief Mike Mitchell of Akwesasne calling me up and asking me to go to Ottawa for a meeting with him. No information as to what and where or who we would be meeting. Get to Ottawa and we are brought in to an office and told that our host would be with us in a minute and then who walks in but National Grand Chief Phil Fontaine. You could have knocked me over with a feather.
CWFN: When you were young did you ever think you’d be Mayor or Councilor of a City? What advice can you give to young people when it comes to thinking about their future?
DT:When I was young political office never crossed my mind even though I was brought up in a family that has deep political roots in northern Ontario.
CWFN:If you could change one thing about Cornwall/Municipality what would it be?
DT: Greater sense of community pride/ more people/better paying jobs
CWFN: What do you want to be remembered most for one day?
DT: I want to be remembered for making a difference.
