Cornwall ON- Grant Fuhr was the goalie for the Edmonton Oiler dynasty. He rarely led the league in goals against or save percentage.
He led in wins and Stanley cup rings during that reign and his key was timely saves. Keeping your team in the game; not giving up the first goal and changing the way they have to play in front of you.
Have a week or average goalie and your whole squad has to play differently than when they have confidence that you’ll make the first stop giving them time to come to the rescue and get that offense going again.
I can tell you as a hockey fan and as someone that worked in hockey at the highest level that if the puck is in your opponents end it’s harder to give up goals 🙂
Carey Price hasn’t figured that out yet and last night was more proof of that as Montreal now has a 2 game losing streak against teams they frankly should not be losing against.
Maybe it’s Andrei Markov? They’re 0-2 since his return? Whatever it is I wouldn’t want to be a Hab player at today’s practice!
The only real comfort is that the Leafs are doing worse as they lost to the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on home ice. They did mount a comeback, but it wasn’t enough and Captain Dion Phaneuf had to leave after getting cut on his leg.
In other NHL Scores Minnesota Shut Out the San Jose Sharks 1-0 which is quite the feat, and Raffi Torres bit his old team’s behind as his Hat Trick was the difference in Vancouver’s 4-3 win over the Oilers.
What do you think Hab Fans? Is it time to tinker? The role players with the exception of Jeff Halpern are struggling as are Captain Gionta and his side kick Scotty the Wonder Dog.
