Cornwall ON – Montreal hung on and barely defeated the Rangers 3-2 tonight in Montreal. It was a brutal and ugly 3rd period and if I was the GM I wouldn’t be happy with Coach Martin tonight and frankly I have to put the blame on his door step.
To give the Rangers the Habs zone for as much time as they did in the 3rd period is shameless.
Montreal jumped to a 3-1 lead after the first and simply let the good times roll. They still dominated in the 2nd, but collapsed in the 3rd giving up one goal to make it close.
The only penalty called in the 3rd was a very lame call that resulted in a 6 on 4 exercise for the Rangers which the Haba fought off to eke out the win.
The Wiz picked up two more assists as he’s been a huge bonus since being acquired from the Islanders. Montreal out shot the Rangers 41-33.
The Habs just seems to be unglued offensively. They need to settle the top six so that they can gel the bottom six, and are two players away from being serious about the cup.
In other NHL scores Saturday night it was Detroit outlasting Columbus 6-5; Florida 3-1 over the Devils; Carolina shocked Tampa Bay 6-4; the Islanders keep on rolling with their 5-3 win against the Sabres with Rick DiPietro back in nets for the Isles.
Pittsburgh did the Habs a favour and pecked the Bruins 3-2; and as of press time Phoenix was all over Anaheim 4-1; Dallas was up 3-1 over Atlanta; Chicago led Nashville 2-0, and Toronto and Calgary were tied at 1. Now that’s a scalper’s dream! Calgary vs Toronto!
So would you trade for Jarome Iginla or if you were Calgary would you rebuild around Jarome Igninla? With parity creeping over the league and teams locking up more of their better players the free agency markets are not what they used to be and the days of doing what Montreal did a few years ago are not going to multiply.
