Cornwall ON – The Ottawa Senators aren’t winning Lord Stanley’s Cup this year, and they sure aren’t going to win any scoring awards, but there’s something about black and orange that sets this club off.
Last night they lots to the Flyers 6-2, but the 3rd period broke out into one fight after another as the Flyers tried to play patty cake with Jody Shelley refusing to drop the leather against Matt Carkner.
This brought out the fire in the Sens and resulted in a whack of fights. The Sens and Flyers have some history as you’ll see in some of the clips below.
There’s something about a good hockey fight that can change the tempo of the game. As much as some argue about fighting in the NHL the crowds sure do go wild when they are unleashed.
When I was a mere babe in Grade 5; going to school in Upstate NY our Flag Football team’s nick name was Light’s Losers named after our captain Andy Light. It’s amazing the things you remember 30 years later…..well we won about as many games as this year’s Sens, but Andy always wanted to inflict punishment…in Flag Football that’s not as easy to do as tackle football.

In other NHL games; Buffalo doubled Boston 4-2; Toronto dined on the Ducks 5-2; Marty Brodeur and the Devils shut out the Penguins 2-0; Caps 2 Isles 1; Carolina beat the Rangers 4-1; TB edged Atlanta 3-2; Detroit nipped St. Louis 4-3; Sergei Kostitsyn scored in Nashville’s 5-1 victory over Colorado; Dallas doubled the Oilers 4-2; SJ needed the shoot out to get by Vancouver 2-1; and Phoenix shut out Los Angeles 2-0.
