Cornwall ON – The Akwesasne Warriors of the Federal Hockey League didn’t dissipoint their Cornwall Ontario fans Saturday night as they scalped the Danbury Whalers 6-1.
They scored early and they scored often. Fan favorite Ahmed Mahfouz didn’t dissipoint either. Things got messy in the third period as the Warriors lost their fights, but Danbury strong man Chris Fulton refused to drop the gloves with Mahfouz leading to a ten minute misconduct.
It was a frustrating 3rd for the league leading penalty minute man and goal scorer as he collapsed on one Whaler who refused to fight in what appeared to lead to two 2 minute penalties for dry humping.
The Whaler’s just couldn’t keep up with the fast skating Warrior team on the bigger ice surface of the Civic complex in Cornwall. David Plouffe kept the pucks out of the net when Danbury did get their shots in, but not to many from any hot zone.
A energetic and loud crowd of 1453 showed up to make this one of the most attended games of the innaugural seasons of the FHL having many wonder out loud and hope that the team should play more games in Cornwall; especially until the bridge nonsense is resolved.
