Cornwall ON – It has been nearly two years since the death of the King of Pop; however that has not stopped people from trying to make money off him. The City of Summerside, P.E.I., is suing Katrina Berg Sussmeier and her promotion company, Starlink Productions for fraud.

The city claims that Sussmeier sold them on a tribute world tour that would have featured
such acts as, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Usher. The extra incentive in this deal was that the small port city of Summerside, P.E.I whose population is a mere 14,500 was going to kick off this international tour July 24.

This appears to be a case of “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” It’s hard to believe that the officials of this small city were swindled to the extent that they made two separate deposits of $650,000 to Sussmeier. The first installment came in July 2009 just a month after Jackson’s death. The second payment came in March of 2010 even though red flags were already reportedly raised.
Yesterday in a San Jose, California courthouse papers were filed on behalf of Summerside. They are suing for the 1.3 million dollars of the tax payer’s money they gave to Sussmeier, plus damages. Unfortunately I am not sure how much money they will receive for damages as it appears to me that any damaged caused here might have been self inflicted.
First off, this is not a PEI promoter. They are down in California.
After reviewing the website for Starlink Productions – what a lame way to spend taxpayer dollars, considering after looking at their website, I wouldn’t have spent a dime on Starlink Productions. The red flags should have started waving once their site was reviewed.
On another note, those in council that voted for this in Summerside, should all be turfed.. At least we have our Benson Center to show for our tax dollars.. But what they are dealing with, what a sham!!

Markus, the people of Summerside perhaps didn’t do the due diligence required for an investment of this size but to say that they self-inflicted damages upon themselves is complete rubbish. You need to have a little more compassion for these people! Come down on the side of the good-guys next time.
