Cornwall ON – Hab fans breathed a sigh as Tomas Plekanec scored an empty net goal and Carey Price notched a shut out against the New York Rangers in a rare Saturday noon game in Montreal.
Former Ranger Scott Gomez scored the lone goal for Montreal who seem more focused after the All Star game. Sitting out today’s game was James Wisniewski. Alexandre Picard got a rare start and blocked a shot late in the 3rd.
While coach Martin is probably happy with the defensive effort the Habs woes on offense and the power play surely are the focus for GM Pierre Gauthier as the trade deadline approaches?
Hal Gill, PK Subban and Yannick Weber were the lone Habs to rack up more than 20 minutes of game time showing Coach Martin’s faith in his young defenders.
New York also showed a lot of spunk. I haven’t watched a lot of their games this season, but was very impressed and now understand how they were only one point behind Montreal before game time.
Montreal was out shot 35-29 by the Rangers. The Habs host the New Jersey Devils on Super Bowl Sunday!
San Jose beat the Bruins 2-0 helping the Habs inch closer to the Division leading Boston Bruins.
We’ll be updating NHL Scores later tonight.
