Cornwall ON – The Leaf Nation should be happy this morning. Not only did Toronto win, but they beat a strong team and did it without star forward Phil Kessell who’s on the hot seat after throwing a tantrum or two over Coach Ron Wilson dropping him to the 3rd line for a bit.
Phil saw 15 minutes of ice time in the Leafs 5-4 victory over Atlanta, but didn’t notch a point.
Captain Dion Phaneuf did hit the back of the net as did Mikhail Grabvoski, Clarke MacArthur, Tim Brent and Nicolai Kulemin. Yes, they did have to come from behind after giving up two early goals, but again, you have to give “the team” credit for not giving up and crumbling.
JS Giguere picked up the win and Francis Kaberle picked up 2 assists. Can the Leafs really afford to move this guy? Beauchemin and Schenn each logged over 27 minutes in the victory.
Ottawa fell 4-2 to the Canucks, but Jason Spezza picked up a goal as he’s back from injury and heating up the trade market. He and Brad Richards are the two hottest commodities on the trade boards right now.
Speaking of the Sens, former goalie Ray Emery signed with Anaheim. Personally I think it’s a great gamble. If healthy he’s a potential number one and at his age may make a great 1 B or really strong 2 for a contending team.
In other NHL Scores Detroit eclipsed the Rangers 3-2; Edmonton shut out Nashville 4-0; Calgary roasted the Hawks 3-1; and Phoenix shut out Colorado 3-0.
And Peter Forsberg has signed with Colorado and will try and give that foot another shot against NHL talent. Does the 37 year old become the story of the year and put the Avalanche in the Play Offs? You can post your comments below.
