Cornwall ON – I was going to write an April Fools story this morning. Usually I come out with one claiming that I’ve become a Conservative and embrace our local MP Guy Lauzon.
Then I started to think about what’s going on around me a bit. Upcoming elections, Japan, death, destruction, recession, athletes foot, and the trend for certain people to wear clothing that exposes more of them that should be exposed not too mention sandal season for people that don’t take care of their feet.
No, I’m not going to do an April Fools column this year. No sir, pas moi. There’s just too much going on with our name change to Canada Free News; Daily Dish News rapid growth and the weird and wonderful time I’m having here in Cornwall Ontario.
About the name change. We’ve grown mightily these two short years. Most of you reading this are outside of Cornwall. Most of you are from Ottawa. It’s hard to convince people in Vancouver, Toronto, and even Ottawa to consider advertising on a paper with a name hundreds or thousands of Kilometers away so we are in the process of changing our name to reflect you, our viewers.
I was asked recently why I stay in Cornwall? Why I don’t move away to where my talents would be better appreciated? My answer was simple enough. It’s a great place with great opportunities. The trick is getting over the poison of “The Old Boys and Girls club” and realizing that change for some comes slower than others. Every community has its good and bad.
The good news is that there are some amazing people here. There’s hope. There’s talk of culture besides Monthly fires, Car Crashes, The Trailer Park Boys, and Justin Bieber Tribute concerts.
Maybe I’m the April Fool? Maybe we all are? Happy April Fools Day and I hope you have a fun one!
Peace

As I have always said success is the best revenge. Money is always good too!
Aaahhh money…..I remember it well
The April Fools are those that don’t accept the reality that online news sources are the present and the future of media. Hardcopy media lost 10% of the advertising dollars last year. Online advertising is booming. Good luck to Canada Free News.
