Cornwall ON – Cornwall SD&G Emergency Medical Services, Cornwall Community Police Services, Cornwall Fire Department and approximately 945 high school students from the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of SD&G will take part in a presentation called Safe Grad 2011 – Making Smart Decisions.
The presentation will involve guest speakers including City of Cornwall Deputy Mayor Elaine MacDonald and Chief of Emergency Services Myles Cassidy, a video presentation, a real time vehicle extrication involving two cars and interviews with all actors/rescuers involved in the demonstration. The cars will be involved in a simulated accident with injuries and feature the cooperative work of rescue personnel including Paramedics, Police and Fire personnel. Students will witness a real time vehicle extrication demonstrating the effort and skills required to respond to a motor vehicle accident.
Following the presentation, students will be invited to leave their seating and interview Paramedics, Police, firefighters and the casualties. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to view the vehicles up close and visit community information booths setup to provide education and awareness of programs aimed at youth.

Safe Grad 2011 – Making Smart Decisions involves approximately 945 grade 12 students from high schools in the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of SD&G and will be conducted in a bilingual format. Although, Cornwall SD&G EMS has conducted Safe Grad events in the last eight years, this event is the largest organized activity involving two ambulances with paramedic crews, police vehicles with officers and fire vehicles with firefighters. The vehicle extrications will be conducted indoors on the arena surface of the Cornwall Civic Complex.
