Cornwall ON – Vancouver defeated Boston 3-2 in OT to take a 2-0 series lead for Lord Stanley’s Cup. They say good teams find ways to win, but great teams find great ways. Both Boston and Vancouver have strong depth and both teams loaded near the trade deadline. While Boston may have made some bigger moves with the Kaberle acquisition, Vancouver needed less and filled their holes well.
Alex Burrows isn’t the highest paid or brightest star on a strong Vancouver squad, but his two goals were the difference last night including his OT winner. In today’s NHL you need depth and Vancouver showed theirs Saturday night as they defeated Boston in their own rink.
The shots were close, 33-30 for Vancouver, but Burrows was the difference as he assisted on the 3rd Vancouver goal as well.
It came down to Vancouver’s stars being better than Boston’s. Manny Malhotra put in nearly 8 minutes of ice time as he returned to action from the brutal eye injury that short tailed his season. The play off specialist was 6-1 for the night which in a one goal game can be the difference as he was Vancouver’s only face off man to have a positive number on the evening.
Milan Lucic and Mark Recchi scored for Boston.
In other NHL news, season tix in the Peg are the hot item selling out in record time which must make True North and the NHL very happy!
