Invites you to an evening with Mike Nickerson
Author of “Life, Money and Illusion; Living on Earth as if we want to stay”
Today’s economic climate requires new approaches to secure the years ahead. With the new challenges come new opportunities. As transportation from distant places becomes more expensive, local employment will expand. With more people working to provide for local needs, citizens will have more reason to interact with each other, leading to greater engagement in local affairs and the consequent uplift in spirits that comes with belonging.
Mr. Nickerson’s presentation will show how unfolding global circumstances can lead to a new, local economic and social order. As a prelude to discussing how the new opportunities can be utilized in Cornwall, he will explain the Transition Town process and how it can be used to provide a framework for meeting the new challenges.
Mike Nickerson is a consummate storyteller, weaving together personal anecdotes with his deep understanding of the issues, based on 35 years of research on cultural evolution and sustainability. The Lanark, Ontario resident has written three books on sustainability, including Life, Money and Illusion: Living on Earth as if we want to stay. He has spoken to hundreds of groups around North America, about the need to abandon our belief in an economic model based on continual growth.
