Section Of Waterfront Recreational Path in Cornwall Ontario Temporarily Closed For Bridge Work – December 9, 2011

CFN – A section of Cornwall’s waterfront recreational path will be closed to the public during the winter months in order to accommodate the ongoing construction activity for the new low-level bridge.

The temporary closure involves a small section of the recreational path immediately beneath and around the existing bridge. Residents accessing the path from the west end near Haulage Road (in Riverdale) will not be able to pass beyond the bridge work site.

It’s anticipated that detour arrangements will be established in the spring, however there may be occasions when access is restricted due to the construction work.

The “In Water Works” portion of the bridge project is now complete, and work is now underway on the construction of the new bridge and related approaches. This portion of the project is slated to be finished in the Fall of 2013. The new bridge is slated to open to traffic in 2013, while the entire project – including demolition of the existing bridge – is expected to be completed by 2016.

For regular construction updates and photos of the bridge project, residents are encouraged to visit www.pontcornwallbridge.ca, a blog maintained by the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd.
