COMPUTER REPAIR SCAM ALERT
Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to inform the residents of our Community of a computer repair scam. It is reported that the culprit(s) contact the victim by telephone and suggest that the home computer has a virus. The culprit(s) explains that the virus can be dealt with from the business computer and charges the victim approximately $200.00 to eliminate the virus. The culprit(s) provides a business name and a false telephone number for complaints. The culprit(s) obtained payment by credit card and has access to all information on the victim’s computer. Shortly after the fraud is completed the victim’s computer is reported to malfunction.
The Cornwall Community Police Service would like residents to take precautions with telephone scams. If you have any doubt, just hang up. You have the right to check out any caller by requesting written information, a call back number, references and time to think about the offer or situation. Do not provide confidential banking information and/or credit card information over the telephone without being informed about the service and researching the situation.

WARRANT
Cornwall, ON- Timothy Poapst, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on the 29th of December, 2011 under the strength of an outstanding warrant. It is alleged that an order of committal warrant was sought on the 17th of November, 2011 due to a surety revocation. He turned himself into police custody and was held for court until later that day.
BREACHES
Cornwall, ON- A 15 year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 29th of December, 2011. She was bound by an undertaking with the relevant conditions to abide by a curfew of 9:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, abide by house rules, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged that on the 28th of December, 2011 she left the residence without permission. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. The youth was charged with 3 counts of breach of undertaking and held in custody until court the following day. The youth’s name was not released as per provision under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
MISCHIEF, BREACHES, ASSAULT, ASSAULT WITH WEAPON & POSSESSSION OF DANGEROUS WEAPON
Cornwall, ON- A 16 year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 29th of December, 2011. The youth was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace & be of good behaviour. It is alleged that on the 29th of December, 2011 he damaged property at a group home, assaulted a 35 year-old staff member and attempted to strike staff with a wooden board. The victim was not injured. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. The youth was charged with assault, 2 counts of assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, mischief under $5000.00 and breach of probation order. The youth was held in custody until court the following day. The youth’s name was not released as per provision under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
MISCHIEF
Cornwall, ON- A 16 year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 30th of December, 2011. It is alleged that on the 30th of December, 2011 he attended his sisters residence and caused damaged. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. The youth was charged with mischief and released to an adult to appear in court on the 26th of January, 2012. The youth’s name was not released as per provision under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
BREAK & ENTER
Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service is currently investigation a break and enter that occurred on the 29th of December, 2011 at a Gloucester Street residence. The suspect(s) gained entry by opening a window and proceeded to remove prescription medication. IMPAIRED DRIVER
(South Stormont) – On 30Dec11, at approximately 3:00am, SD&G OPP officers stopped a Toyota Tundra at a RIDE check on Highway 401 west bound off ramp, South Stormont Township.
The male driver (Jason Edward WITTEVEEN of Edwardsburgh, On) was found to be operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested and faces charges of:
- Impaired Operation/Motor Vehicle
- Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content/Motor Vehicle
He is scheduled to appear 17Jan12 in Cornwall court.
