CFN – Danny Briere scored two goals in Philadelphia’s 4-3 comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins to kick off the 2011/2012 NHL Play Offs! The Penguins jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Sidney Crosby, Tyler Kennedy, and Pascal Dupuis before the Flyers hit back.
Brayden Schenn had a strong night going +2 and leading the Flyers with 3 points with a goal and two assists. Jaromir Jagr had an assist for Philly with his 15 minutes on the ice. Sniper James Neal recorded six shots on net with zero points. Jakub Voracek scored the winner in OT. After a shaky start Ilya Bryzgalov shut the door on the Penguins not giving up a goal after the first period.
LA also neutralized Home Ice advantage stunning the Canucks with a 4-2 victory while out shooting them 39-26 in Vancouver. The Nucks were playing with only one Sedin. Roberto Luongo started in net for Vancouver, but it was LA leading the way in all three periods with bad boys Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and even Dustin Penner, who scored the winner, notching points.
Two 3rd period goals sealed the deal.
Nashville defeated Detroit to start their series. Gabriel Bourque and Paul Gaustad were the goal scorers as Nashville held off the Wings who out shot the Preds 37-26 but couldn’t figure out how to get by Pekka Rinne enough times to be victorious. Former Hab Frankie Bouillon notched an assist and was plus 2 for the night. Hal Gill was scratched because of injury.
