CFN – This is the new shape of the market. Nothing too radical but it does give room for a few more vendors. This week the spot for a community charitable event wasn’t filled and it was just as well because they might have gotten blown away on this hot and blustery day. Even the most seasoned market veterans were having difficulties keeping their tents on the ground.

Before I get to the most recent produce available I am going to highlight two vendors that I have neglected in the past few weeks, Coffey’s Coffee and Toi’s Thai Food. I guess I was so busy looking at the other end of the booths I forgot about my own and my neighbour’s. I have to tell you that I have become dependent on a snack of Thai spring rolls to get me through the afternoon. Toi was a little late yesterday and I was beginning to panick. I wasn’t alone in my concern either. Quite a few people came by early looking for their Friday fix of Thai food and had to wait.

The latest crops this week at the Avonmore Berry Farm was the yellow beans, peas and raspberries. Unfortunately Andrew told me that this would be the last week for strawberries. There are still lots of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers at Ingleside Tomatoes. If you are still looking for plants we have them too. Our bakers, both non-gluten and regular bakers, had their tables filled at the start of the afternoon but quickly sold out many of their products. The jams, jellies and pickled products producers were also having a busy day. Our local honey vendor was completely sold out before the end of the market.

In spite of the strong wind and 30°C+ temperatures the market had another successful day, with one exception. Not a lot of people were looking for a nice hot cup of coffee. I wonder why.

The market will be open every Friday afternoon from 2 PM until 6 PM until Thanksgiving at the Long Sault Shopping Centre. I hope to see you there.
