Canada: No Longer a Democratic Country that Respects Basic Human Rights? by Don Smith

Supreme Court of Canada will NOT hear Galganov / Brisson Forced Bilingual Sign Appeal – Breaking

The Supreme Court of Canada (the court of last resort)

CFN – Human rights champion Howard Galganov reports that today he received the much-anticipated e-mail concerning his petition made to the Supreme Court.  The court of last resort was being asked to overturn a decision made by a Superior Court judge that allows muncipalities to over-ride the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Previously an Ontario Superior Court judge ruled that Russell Township violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but that doing so was acceptable.  By a very slim majoriy, the township passed a bylaw which demands that all new exterior commercial signage be in English and French, not one or the other and no provision for other languages.  Russell was the fourth Eastern Ontario township to do so.

Today the Township of Russell posted the following Press Statement on their website:

“In light of the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in regards to the leave of appeal from Galganov / Brisson versus Russell in the matter related to the Bilingual Sign Bylaw, we are extremely pleased that the plaintiffs were denied the hearing” said Mr. Jean Paul St-Pierre, Mayor for the Township of Russell. “It finally brings closure to the legal proceedings that were, in all instances, decided in favor of the Municipality by the court. The Court reiterates the fact that the Township was in its legal rights to adopt such bylaw and that Mr. Howard Galganov, a non-resident of the municipality, was in no position to contest the bylaw. We now can move forward for the benefit of our communities” concluded Mayor St.Pierre.”

How ironic that some Franco businesses and municipal agencies choose not to adhere to the bylaw.  The municipal Fire Hall in Embrun boasts a unilingual sign which reads:  “Poste de Pompiers”.

Russell Township imposes bilingual sign requirements on private businesses, yet displays French only signs on Township buildings like this one.

And, as we reported recently, the Francophone cultural/entertainment centre recently replaced its sign with a high tech version, but still in French only.  An employee of La Maison des Arts told us that they were zoned differently (institutional/non-profit), then said that it’s because they provide French education.  Apparently the centre previously had posted a small sign which explained that rationale. A member of the local community informed us that La Maison des Arts provides day care service for the French Catholic School across the street; would one not think that to be considered a business venture?

Pierre Leroux ran for and became a Russell Councillor two years ago; he told CFN that it’s widely known that one of his motivating forces in running for Council was the fact that he didn’t feel it right the way that bilingualism was forced upon local businesses.  As for today’s Supreme Court announcement, as a member of Council he’s happy that the Township will not have to pay for an expensive legal battle (which he feels could have been avoided), but as a person he feels that the decision is wrong.

Here are the old and new versions of the hard-to-miss, La Maison des Arts outdoor sign. Staff claim to be exempt from the Russell Township bylaw because they provide French education.

So, what about everyone else?  People are asking ‘What’s the problem with being fair and allowing everyone a similar degree of freedom of expression?’  That’s a great question!

In our short clip, viewers can plainly see that the animated sign is unilingual and hear for themselves the explanation we received from a staff member of the arts centre.

Galganov was among the presenters at the recent annual Christmas Luncheon hosted by Canadians for Language Fairness at an Ottawa area restaurant.  At the gathering, Galganov told the crowd:

“If the Supreme Court decides that they’re not going to hear the case, then it becomes the law of Canada.  Any municipality can legislate, not just on issues of language and culture, but on any of the guarantees in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.  The Charter is essentially a Charter of Suggestions.  Any time a judge or group of judges of one mindset or the other can decide what is to be protected and what is not to be protected it means we have no guarantees.  Freedom of Expression is the foremost guarantee we have in any free society.”

In our highlight video clip (unedited footage provided by Danno Saunt) each of the key presenters at the CLF Luncheon (Beth Trudeau, Howard Galganov, Nick Vandergragt, Brian Lilley, Ron Barr and Jack MacLaren) shares an update on their involvement in the ongoing struggle to preserve basic human rights here in Canada.

It is anticipated that Galganov as well as Language Fairness for All and Canadians for Language Fairness will step up their efforts locally and nationally.

As a democrat, I have to agree, with you, in this, at least.
The ROC can separate from Québec anytime it wants to.
TROUBLE, FOR YOU IS, IT DON’T!

  2. @everyone Yes, you too admin 🙂
Actually, especially you and CFN. Thanks to you we have a public forum that is indeed rare in this country.

Merry Christmas & Best Wishes to ALL.
I am an equal opportunity “Merry Christmas wisher.”

After all, there is always hope that those “on the other side”
will eventually see the light (maybe it’s that star in the sky)
and gain the wisdom to change their mind and believe in fairness for EVERYONE.

Great article. Unimagineable that in this day and age, with all of accountability and scrutiny that exists such a “sick law” is on the books anywhere.

This law is reflective of laws passed in dictorial countries, never mind in a “supposedely” democratic country of Canada.

This Canada’s dirty little secret .

I travel extensively to the USA, on business. I go out of my way to point out this law to many, many people.

I think “schock” is the garnered response.

Now it is up to us the people. We now have come to a crossroads in Canada”s history.

The 27 million stong are indeed, just waking up. When I address people, even the most consevative of Canadians, and by that I mean the non-political type , have really had it up to here.

I have referred many to this site, many from out west, and from the USA.

When they are exposed to some of the absolute garbage statements of the FRAUD SQUAD , they cringe with horror, of the disconnect to reality, even in the face of verification of fact, of these people.

This was the goal of Camille Lauren, the author of bill 101.

He knew, that if you attack a culture from 2 prongs, business and education, that control would be his.

As time went on the ab-normal became the normal, and brainwashing, divisiveness set in.

What he also got, as an added bonus, was the support of liberals both provinically and federally, right under our noses.

Canadian politicans, have permitted this events and laws to gain momentum, even making things worse, by trudeau’s charter and the notwithstanding clause.

I agree with many here, that the TIME IS NOW, with no easing up on any front.

The call is for quebec to get out, and get out now. There is a health support for this movement to do this.

Far too many people are just too fed up to take it anymore.

I hope this happens ASAP, so we can finally rid ourselves of this futile ,endless rethoric that has clouded our evolvement for 200 years +

Canada can be unilingual English with all of its trappings and advantages , quebec can finally have its own nation, taking care of their population, and ensuring that their culture and language is protected.

Canada will be retuned to the country she was always meant to be. A vibrant democracy without racist and discriminatory laws on its books. While quebec can go on being the xenaphobic, racist entity that it has always aspired to be, wrapping itself around the “fleurs des lis” for all the world to laugh at and feel sorry for.

And the natural order of things will evolve as they should.

  4. A tout mes amies/amis francophone, je vous souhaite un “Joyeux Noel” Que la paix du Seigneur soit avec vous et votre famille.

To all the many friends I have made on this site **s**

    “Merry Christmas”

T’is a time for PEACE and LOVE….let’s share it!!!

  5. @ stella,

your bogus wishes fool no one, you are a three dollor bill

admin would not let me post what I wanted, although I still don’t know why

  6. Tap…..Obviously your post was nasty. Does that answer your question on why adm didn’t post it?

Nothing bogus about my post and wishes……it came straight from the heart, however, what it does show on your part is animosity. no surprise there as it was expected **smile**

  7. @ Stella. It’s amazing that wishing people a Joyeux Noel or Happy Christmas on this site will be met with hostility. These English freedom-fighters are seriously angry, it seems. Sad, really. It must be a treat living with some of these people… or maybe not.

  8. Honesty is not based on a popularity contest, it is based ON TRUTH.

Best wishes from someone who is continually attacking people personally, calling them names, and trying to demean them ,and then, OH !!!!!! its Christmas

I want to look good, so I’ll pass on my “good wishes” to the people I have been bad mouthing for months, and look like a hero and hope people will actually believe I mean it.

    Gimmie a break !!!

Ya right, you are not dealing with idiots here.

Nice try, I was born at night, but NOT LAST NIGHT.
Lay that on somone who has no clue, or is the same as you are, like ed, another of your ilk.

By the way my family, loves living with me, and one of the reasons they love living with me ,is that I don`t tolerate, from anyone BS. like you tried to pass off as good wishes .

I am not a phoney, nor am I politically correct, I simply call it as I see it.

To try to protray yourself as someone you really are not, although not surprising, is quite frankly well, you can fill in the word, I maybe moderated again if I use it.

  9. tap tap, admin is afraid to offend this franco pair even with a slightest snub, but gives them free rein to mock and denigrate us, anglos.

  10. Ah Ed, that’s only because tap tap could see right through Stella’s “Merry Xmas wish” and how it was filled with just about as much sincerity and authenticity as Pauline Marois empty, speech saying … “to my Anglo – friends – I would like to say, “don’t worry, your rights will be protected.”
What a load of … reindeer poo&*p that was.

  11. No Nat. I delete many comments that cross the line. While not perfect, CFN is not home for people that need to call names and make personal insults to prove a point. You have the Sun newspapers for that. Happy 2013.

  12. I refused to wish Stella and company a Merry Christmas for obvious reasons.

I just couldn’t put it past me to wish her and a few others a Merry Christmas despite it being one of the holiest of holiest days.

I’ll say this. I’m honest enough with myself and others who I don’t like nor respect to refrain from wishing holiday greetings because to do so would be both disrespectful and dishonest to both myself and those whom I’ve grown to dislike on this forum.

If I were to wish holiday greetings to some here, it just wouldn’t be sincerely done.

I refuse to stoop to wishing someone a Merry Christmas in some snide, sarcastic fashion and not to be serious.

  13. A New Year is approaching and as well a increase spirit to fight against government and systemic Language discrimination.

If the Franco Zealots think they had a busy year last year dealing with us ,this next will make the last pale in comparison .

For we do this for our children as well as future generations as they are the ones we protect from language discrimination.

The time is now to bring back equity to all Canadian Citizens, act now so YOUR FUTURE GENERATIONS do not pay for OUR APATHY.

This winter is called the “winter of discontent” by Chris Cameron and many plans are underway.

We need a nationwide conversation on bilingualism and how we can bring equality through “where numbers warrant” and remove forced bilingualism.

This next year will bring awareness to other communities as well as provinces of how language laws are used to discriminate against the majority.

  14. Yes Highlander, Canadians from coast to coast will be shaking in our boots while you and your friends bang on your pots and pans.

  15. @ admin

    With respect to you,

stella is a hypocite, regardless of the way anyone wants to spin it,

she attacks people personally calls people names, then wishes people merry Christmas, **s** peace and best wishes.

What would you say she was? Genuine?

  16. It is my understanding, that three lower court judges, agreed with Galganov and brisson, but said something to the effect, that it is better to keep the townships laws anyway.

Well, if they agreed, that the law was correct, then arbritrarly dismissed this with no foundation in law, then this means that the judicary, is NOT UPHOLDING the law as per interruption.

Meaning, that they know the law is correct and rights are being violated, but we simply are NOT GOING TO ACT

If they won’t interrupt the law it as it should ,then they become mute and it is the right of the people to decide.

If this is the case then another avenue of pursuit is the witholding of taxes, not the refusaul of paying taxes.

This has worked in the U.S.

I am hopefull someone more attunted to this can maybe assist in this potential course of action.

  17. @ highlander

Anyone who has the guts and fortitude to engage in injustices, has my most heart felt respect

The sarcasism, displayed by the anti- anglos, such as ed, only makes me want to support you more.

Canadians from coast to coast, except quebec, will applaud you, rather than shaking in their boots.

Only an idiot would think in this manner.

like Stella, they are devoid of fact and can only spew venom that is without merit or substance.

You know, if any of their anti-English rethoric was a tiny bit fact based, that would be one thing, but none of it is.

They use this site as a forum for their propaganda and to inflict a personal character assaults on people ,who only want to be fair.

Then have the nerve to wish people happy Christmas and say Canadians will shake in theirn boots.

WOW!!!! What a statement of fact and innovation

  18. tap tap THANKS

Ed is furtz on standard freeholder -very arrogant individual ,it seems the only purpose in his life is to be an arrogant irritant to all.
He is not interested in facts but to be an irritant to all, numbers nor facts are needed for him .
That is fine he is no different then the canine excrement that I pick up on my shoes -more of an irritant.

It is as well very apparent not well educated as well ,but seems to get his attention seeking needs fulfilled by irritating others for fun -talk about low self esteem.

Tap Tap many “projects ” under way ,funny thing about impunity when one group feels that way they go beyond reason in their approach and feel no need for accountability for ones actions.

Its going to be a fun ,empowering year showing society the wrongs of legislated discrimination, legislated segregation.

Thanks for the support Tap Tap,we all can make a difference, when people ask what they can do -simply talk about it and yes one person can make a difference -feel empowered you do have a choice!

  19. Still waiting Pierre for a respose for this…

“Oh and, speaking of proof Pierre.

    ON December 21, 2012 at 8:03 pm
Pierre wrote to bill. “Québec was the only one who had a language police but they haven’t been heard of in a decade”

Then ON December 22, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Pierre wrote to Rosie, “Well Rosie, you’re wrong. They are not the language police.
I told you, they have not been active in a decade. And, I don’t believe that you could go on Rosie.”

Well I can “go on” Pierre. And, as a matter of fact I have more of this PROOF if you want more… So, since you often demand proof. Here it is. I would appreciate you telling me and these two people you harped at regarding this issue that you were indeed WRONG.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJygUIcWYFw ”

I can hear those crickets a chirping away with regard to my proof re: Langauge police there Pierre…

I guess it’s just that you’re busy over the holidays. Bill, Rosie and I will wait for you to get back to let us know … YOU WERE indeed WRONG about the language police being in active.

  20. Stella, your Christmas wishes warmly reciprocated. Quant aux niais sur cette site, ils ont leurs obsessions à eux. Vaut pas s’en occuper.

  21. @ tap tap. In Canada, if you evade paying income tax, there are serious (criminal) implications. In the township where I live, if you don’t pay your property tax, you lose your home. As far as sales tax goes, no legitimate retailer or service provider will do business with you if you refuse to pay the HST. Exactly which tax(s) are you suggesting that English freedom-fighters withhold? Maybe you guys should consider a blockade of the 401 near the Quebec border. If you gave the news outlets a heads up a day or two before, you’d get some coverage on the evening news. Just make sure that all the folks blockading the highway are decently dressed, presentable, and sober. Otherwise, everyone watching the news will think you are nut-bars.

  22. @tap tap
quote:If they won’t interrupt the law it as it should ,then they become mute and it is the right of the people to decide.end quote

I think you meant to say interpret; but you could say they did interrupt the law blatantly.

Happy New Year to you and keep moving forward in 2013.

  23. Thanks Highlander for the attention you have bestowed upon me. Feels good!! But you are wrong about Furtz. He is my older cousin who rents a room on the third floor (attic) of my house. I have no control over what he posts anywhere on the internet. His long-time girlfriend, Iris, moved in with him a few years ago, and it all seems to be working out well.
Now, about you describing me as dog poop on the bottom of your shoe… that is a priceless line! I hope you have more where that came from.

  24. @Ken,

By saying that galganov and brisson were correct ( that they had a case based on law) they had already interupreted the law but refused to act, as was their duty.

Judges take oaths as well. When they turn a blind eye then they should be held accountable.

Witholding taxes, inaccurate filings, appealing each and every decision, can put a dent in the money Canada takes in.

Each tax filier has a right to appeal twice this can take forever.

    so their are ways.

In the U.S. one particular revolt was of primary significance, The Boston tea party. In any event, suggestions are where ideas spring from.

What ever way yuo wish to go, you have my suppot and I regularly forward these blogs to western Canada, they love it

  25. @ Z nuts
Crazy as you are, for once I agree with some of you guys because, I too found mysef unable to wish you happy whatever. When Stella did, I tried, as she did, to you show some respect, as warring soldiers sometimes do, to their ennemies.
But then, I thought it would be sarcatic and even hypocritical of me to do so because, all I find myself able to wish you is a very needed stay in the “coco house”.
Guess I’m not as nice as Stella & P.J.
    tap tap,
What the judges of the High Court of Ontario were saying by this judgement is that the rights of some business owners may have been breached by the bilingual sign laws but that there were more important rights to be protected in this instance. Those are the constitutional rights of minorities of official languages. You know, the rights that you only recognize for the anglo minority of Québec.
    eduyorlik
Contrarily to you, I read your, so called evidence, which usually turns out to be, nothing but, opinions from other misinformed, french hating blogers. In this case, I’m sorry to tell you, that I don’t have any speakers on this computer so, I don’t know what Carolle-Anne and Lee are saying. Perhaps you could fill me in. I have a lap top that’s should be fixed in a few days.
I’d like to see if we have the same understanding of their reports… I doubt it!

  26. @Pierre
I must say I like the analogy of the warring solders which is sort of my reasoning for wishing “everyone” a merry Xmas myself.
But, that Pierre, is where my meeting you half way re: ANYTHING ends.
    –
Pierre wrote, “What the judges of the High Court of Ontario were saying by this judgement is that the rights of some business owners may have been breached by the bilingual sign laws but that there were more important rights to be protected in this instance. Those are the constitutional rights of minorities of official languages. You know, the rights that you only recognize for the anglo minority of Québec.”
    –
    — Pierre, you COMPLETELY FAIL TO SEE, don’t you… These two “conditions” you mention —- the Francophones outside of Quebec and how they are treated and the Anglophones inside Quebec and how they are “mis”treated) — are NOT even remotely comparable.
    –
Firstly, we all know how well treated the Francophones are – financially and otherwise – both inside and outside Quebec. And secondly, those “anglo minorities” in Quebec are IN THEIR OWN FREEKIN COUNTRY. Have you and all your people fallen and bumped your collective heads and forgot that Quebec is ONLY A PROVINCE… This country (yes, Canada) has (in case you haven’t noticed) a common language. Yes, and that common language is CALLED ENGLISH. And, just like you and Quebec believe that French should be dominant in Quebec we Canadians rightfully believe English should be dominant in Canada. Simple isn’t it? Justification for a separate Quebec, don’t_cha_agree? C’mon, get out there and get your people on it. Make this happen there Pierre. I know you can do it 🙂
    –
Also, those “supreme court judges” are supposed to be acting on behalf of THE people of the WHOLE COUNTRY and not acting to protecting “the more important rights” (your words – definitely NOT MINE) of the French.
    That’s pure egocentric – spew –

    Cont’d below

  27. @Pierre
There is really no use wasting my time trying to debate with someone who say’s things like, “I’d like to see if we have the same understanding of their reports… I doubt it!” without even having heard the actual reports.
    –
The simple FACT IS — the reports prove that your so called “language police” — HAVE NOT — been dormant for 10 years and thus you are WRONG and you, just like the rest of your clan, are simply propaganda machines that say, left is right and up is down. And, you simply just don’t have the cahoonas to admit you were wrong. Further more, dormant or not (since you will still likely refuse to see the truth even though it’s staring you right in the face) the FACT remains, the sheer concept or idea of having such a thing as “language police” (which btw Marois just increased the numbers of them) in the first place is not only — unconstitutional — on EVERY level, but it is also reprehensible, despicable and just plain stupid. If language police is what it takes to “save” your fledgling language and culture then, I hate to break it to ya Pierre but, you and your people have much more serious problems than you will ever realize or admit.

It’s obvious that you are one of those — no matter what anyone says, or how much proof anyone produces — the sky to you is always purple. Even when others prove it’s blue. It is for this reason that I am going to ignore you from now on.

Oh yeah and, have a great day eh 🙂

    PPS
What flag was it that you said you fly Pierre? I notice you forgot to mention that as well… Could this be because you feel a sense of guilt for taking OUR MONEY / Canadian tax payers money while having such a hard core allegiance to another “county’s” flag ? I dare you to respond to this question Pierre.

  28. @edudyorlik n tap tap n highlander

Make it your New Year resolution to ignore Pierre n Ed n Stella, they are just provoking you into wasting your valuable time responding to them.

  29. Pierre December 27, 2012 at 9:34 pm

” What the judges of the High Court of Ontario were saying by this judgement is that the rights of some business owners may have been breached by the bilingual sign laws but that there were more important rights to be protected in this instance.”

So the rights of one group of people trump the rights of another -And they call that democracy?

What would be said of a minority official languagein Quebec not allowed to be practiced to the same extent as the other official language.

Why is English in Quebec not protected as French outside of Quebec .

Perhaps the only solution is the rest of Canada and its provinces have thier own bill 101 equal to that in Quebec to level the playing field,it only seems fair and equitable that way, certainly what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

  30. @ududyoulik
How sick can one get? you tell me that you won’t respond to me anymore and , in the next paragraph you ask me a question. Pathetic!
I haven’t heard the reports but I doubt that we’ll have the same understanding of them because I’m sane.
I’ve asked you to tell me what the reports say, not telll me, that they prove me wrong concerning the language police.
    That we could debate.
Then, but only ten, if I’m wrong, I’ll admit it.
But I don’t think you will. I’m not too proud for that.
And I admit it, there has been an increase in staff at the OQLF. That’s because the complaints of concerned citizens have increased.
Stop saying that the law 101 is unconstitutional because it is constitutional. You are talking through your hat.
In fact, it was acting on a recommendation from the federal government and supported by the Supreme Court of Canada, in 1993, that Bourassa did not renew the use of the NWC and changed law 101 to what it is today which is, that any and all languages, that includes english, could be present, on all signs, in Québec, as long as french was predominent. I repeat : “Bourassa, acting on the suggestion of the government of Canada and supported by the Supreme Court.” droped the NWC and changeed the law to what it si today”
Again, I haven’t ever, ever seen you produce any proof of the hateful propaganda you so freely, dish out.
I’ve already told you that I fly both flags Canada’s and Québec’s… I’m no bigot
And, I don’t fail to see anything. I’ve said, before that, I’ve been at this, a long time. My e-mail address is PaysanP……… The P stands for Perceptive.
You should believe me when I tell you that minorities are, generally, well treated in Québec as they are, in the ROC. But, both nations have their extremist fringe element, who hate the other side. You and your group are one such fringe element that, unfortunately, the right of freedom of speech, forces us to live with.
    with.
So try to wake up and smell the coffee. English is dominant in the ROC.
Québec, even with the help of it’s “Charte de la Langue Française”, can only dream of such language dominance.
And, don’t ask me to help Québec separate.
Say that to the federalists and to the government of Canada. They are the ones who won’t let us go. Over 49% of us voted to seprate in 1995 and, we would probably have had an even higher count had your side played it by the rules (need I remaind you of the “LOVE TRIP TO MONTREAL” and the implementation of the “CLARITY LAW” which, in my opinion, makes separaton, quasi impossible, in he future.
So, I really believe that you, and your band, should seriously think of leaving this united country… Maybe, that way you could, gain back some long lost sanity?

  31. That’s an interesting thought, Ken. So you’re saying that you English freedom-fighters should should just bellyache between yourselves, and ignore those who disagree. Sounds kinda boring to me, but by all means, if you enjoy babbling away to yourself, go to it.
Hey! I hate bilingualism…. So do I. Me too. I agree. Yup. It wrong. So do I. Me too. I agree. Yup. It wrong. So do I. Me too. I agree. Yup. It wrong. So do I. Me too. I agree. Yup. It wrong. etc.

  32. @Ken, highlander, edudyorlik et al

They certainly write a lot of words WITHOUT saying anything.

It would be refreshing to hear from people that actually have something to contribute other than the dog vomit I read here

  33. Pierre December 28, 2012 at 12:14 pm

” Say that to the federalists and to the government of Canada. They are the ones who won’t let us go. Over 49% of us voted to seprate in 1995 and, we would probably have had an even higher count had your side played it by the rules”

That statement says it all Pierre that you are a separatist ,yet you fly both flags -hypocrite.

What did you mean your side ?Canada’s ?the same side that supports Quebec like the welfare recipient it is!

Besides as you say to be” let go” Quebec would be a third world country ,or would you think that the welfare province would continue to get hordes of money from Canada.

Hey Stella ,and you back Pierre he wants to separate the country isn’t this why you debate on here ?

You have continued your ranting and propaganda at a group in your believe that wants to separate a country, and have sais that is why you disagree with the group.

Yet you agree with Pierre who wants Canada separated?
    Or is there another agenda?
So why not debate with Pierre as separating the country is what he wants?
    Or is there another agenda?

He clearly states that had “your side” (Canada) had played by the rules? If that wasn’t a separatist view Stella why not debate with him who wants to see separation?

Oh wait that’s right Stella that’s not the true agenda here!

FRENCH FIRST,RIGHT STELLA AND PIERRE FRENCH FIRST!

  34. PIERRE ,
KEEP POSTING THANKS FOR YOU ONLY LET OTHERS KBOW THE REALITY OF THE ETHNOCENTRISM IN QUEBEC.

THANKS PIERRE,YOUR BUMBLING RANTS ONLY HELP OUR CAUSE.

  35. You’re right Ken. As you can see in this statement by one of them,
    –
    — “How sick can one get? you tell me that you won’t respond to me anymore and , in the next paragraph you ask me a question.”
    –
They can’t even understand the difference between the idea of me prompting an answer to a question and me responding which has NOTHING TO DO with me asking a question. This same one then claims he is “sane.” Right… !!!

You notice he then agrees they have increased the number of these stupid language police and say’s it’s because of an increase in complaints. Yeah, they went from 2 complaints to 3 complaints.
    –
Further more, We all KNOW … These so called complaints are basically people ratting on businesses and each other for having ENGLISH — dun dun duunhhhhhhh — oh my god. Dreaded English… Imagine that. English in their own country… Canada…
One of his own say’s it best. “You don’t promote a culture by crushing or erasing another one.”

Heaven forbid if someone should have English anywhere in or on their store premises when they live in CANADA. He just doesn’t GET IT. He doesn’t realize or maybe doesn’t wish to remember the idea that English is dominant because WE WON that FREEKIN battle they so wish to forget. And THAT is what happens when one is victorious. They get to decide. Our only problem is that we’re too nice and too complacent. We let them keep their language and culture. Something they obviously wouldn’t have been kind enough to do as they are ALL ABOUT domination and not equality.
This is why they don’t foster bilingualism in Quebec.

Other than that Ken. I am glad to see you back and hope you had a good Xmas.

  36. If ever there were reasons to separate from this entity (quebec)

just read the blogs from the FRAUD SQUAD

Why is quebec in Canada, please someone ,other than the FRAUD SQUAD, tell me.

Peopel we need our movement to expand and become more assertive in our actions

  37. Hmmm… dog vomit…dog poo stuck on shoes…
There seems to be a theme developing.
Fight on, saviors of the English language!
Get those pots and pans out, and beat them mercilessly!
All “real” Canadians are counting on yous to save us from the marauding Franco hoards that are poised to ruin every aspect of life in our once proud and free land! Gawd bless each and every one of yous true heroes who put your lives on the line each day fighting to take back our country!
I still think a blockade of the 401 would be the best way for yous to get some national attention. Or maybe a public Quebec flag-stomping event at the Cornwall Via station. Yous people should rent a couple of rooms at the Sunset motel on 2nd Street W. and hold a national convention of English freedom-fighters, and do some brain-storming re getting some national recognition of your plight.

  38. Just another reminder that the name calling and insults are not cool. If we have to start banning IP numbers we unfortunately will. Surely some of you can debate as heated as it may get without calling each other names?

    Please chill the personal abuse.

Thanks and Merry 2013 to everyone! Joyeux 2013 à tous!

  39. @ admin,

You may want to add sarcastic and mocking of a post.

When people are sarcastic and mocking they are answered in kind, and that’s perhaps thats why name calling comes into play

I am particularly referring to ed, stella and pierre, since your review of their posts can be clearly seen as instigating the responses they garner to their posts.

I will respect, as long as I am respected.

  40. Want to know how to defeat these zealots and zealotry?

Keep writing to your elected officials; keep writing your Letters to the Editor, and keep up the cause for language fairness for all Canadians.

Simply ignore the naysayers such as Stella and Ed who cannot even give us a single, well-founded argument supporting their reasoning for all things French superiority. It’s that simple, really.

Ignore them, and they will eventually tire of defending their apartheid stances such as defending the segregation of English from French kids on school buses in Alexandria. For, remember, the vast majority of them work for French organizations pushing for a French only agenda sponsored by Canadian tax money. Their is no difference between their cause and the one of separatists, agenda. With perhaps that one wishes for an all-French Canada while the other wishes for an all-French Quebec. Either way, there is the commonality of French language dominance or I should more aptly say Fascist French cultural dominance. Don’t believe me? Then let’s ask ourselves why then does a Gestapo like police force exist in the ‘Canadian’ province of Quebec ensuring that unfair laws such as Bill 101 are followed by Quebec businesses. And just as frightening now is the enforcing of municipal laws outlawing the advertising in the language of one’s choice (Russel Township). Commonality=These laws are being supported/enforced and pushed by French zealotry.

Despite all of this what I find most frightening is the lack of understanding or at least the lack of acknowledgement of the other side in even putting these problems in scope or simply the defining of the actual difficulties inherent in all of this.

Welcome to Canada, home of the Fourth Reich.

  41. @ ududyorlik, highlannder, tap tap
I am trying to answer your questions and your accusations in the style that you use but not quite as crudely and, believe me, it’s difficult, for me, to get my message through.
And, I think it’s sad because, I don’t just put in my opinion. My posts contain important info for anyone who really want to understand the other side of the situation.
I’ll leave it at that, for now because, I can’t be wasting time writing blogs that will only be deleted.
So here’s hoping you’ll get to read this one, and thefollowing one.

  42. @ tap tap.. Are you seriously asking the administrator of this site to protect you from criticism and scorn? If so, you should find a smaller sandbox.

  43. What you do, Ed, is called inflaming.

  44. Ed December 28, 2012 at 7:24 pm
” Are you seriously asking the administrator of this site to protect you from criticism and scorn?”

NOW SERIOUSLY IF THAT WAS SO ED WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ,wow no sarcastic ignorant comments, but sadly I believe in Freedom of speach even when that speach is utilized as provoking anger and frustration.

Pierre the separatist, you do not realize that Quebec is the welfare province ,and one must be able to fend for tjemselves prior to Independence well its been near 60 years since Quebec. fended for themselves.

Pierre your post like mine at times are not posted because they include derogatory comments or name calling ,we all must try and not create more work for our moderator ,but atlas passion gets to all of us including you my separatist.

Separation will doom the French culture, but go ahead self destruct .

  45. @Cory Cameron

I have to try to be nice here. I don’t want to be deleted, again. But, don’t you think, your last posts is simply xenophobic.
I’m sorry that you didn’t get to read my last deleted posts because they answered some of your affirmations.
Now, about Stella. You may be right, in stating, that she’s no constitutionalist. But, neither are you.
She does’nt have to be a constitutionalist to know that, anglo Ontarians have rights that are guaranted by the constitution of Canada. You guys, the so called freedom fighters, do not respect these rights. You chose to believe a narrow minded fredom idielogie that excludes the rights of many canadians. Fortunatelly canada is not so black and white and some rights are sometimes in conflict with others. That’s why we have courts.
But, tell me what’s the point of having a blog if you ignore or dismiss the other side, the naysayers.
Seems to me you(s) are not trying to have a fair debate but rather push your anti-canadian propaganda.
    And I wonder why?
Do you reall think you’re going to form a party that’s going to take power in Canada and, and, and I don’t know what. I don’t understand where you’re you think you’re going with all of this. Pure waste of everybody’s time if you ask me unless it allows people like me to explain to the readers about the positive sides of the relation between francophone and anglophone, between Québec and Canada.
Your positions are anti canadian because they go against the laws of the province of Ontario, of Canada, of the courts of Ontario and of Canada.
Your propaganda also goes against the constitutionaly decreted laws of Québec, province of Canada.
Trying not to be out of line here but don’t you think that it’s pathetic for you(s) to believe that all these people are wrong but not you?

  46. @ eddy baby
Your criticism and scorn are worn like badges of honor to me.

Maybe if you had any factual information, other than such gems as “they will shaking in their boots’, “a blocade of the 401”, “renting some hotel, that you frequent”, “walking on a quebec flag” I would be a quivering.

But eddy baby, you are DEVOID of Fact and bankrupt of any viable idea to add or contribute here.

You relish in the thought(I use this word very loosly when applying it to you), of thinking your irritants are somehow affecting our cause.

Just the opposite, it gives us motivation to push harder, if this is what the other side has, and is counting on, well , we are in really good shape.

When people cannot argue the facts, they resort to your kind of sarcastic and personal attacks. That smells of desparation eddy baby, and the stink is overwhelming

  47. Pierre, it is not to much to ask, in a province where 97% speak English, to work for your governments. In some cases, the on-line application rejects you becasue of language. Certainly, more and more jobs are calling for bilingulism, why, there are not that many French only speakers who need help.
It is not to much to ask for a business owner be “allowed” to put up whatever sign they wish, within public reason of course. What is the next Charter Right to infringed?

If people are able to speak more than one language, good for them, however government forgot to apply brakes when the fairness ideal was reached.

  48. wow nearly 600 posts to a cornwall news column!! impressive numbers i guess the equality/fairness group should be proud of the exposure that resulted from the courts decision. sometimes a loss can be a winner.

  49. @ Eric
I believe you are one of the more thoughtful anglo writers on this blog but, I’m having trouble understanding some of your questions. It seems to me that you may be confusing the actions (promotion of biingualism) of the federal government and those of your provincial government.
Sure, only about 4% of Ontario’s population is francophone but it used to be much more than this before assimilation nearly dissiminated this community and you can see on this very blog the efforts made to put the final nail in it’s coffin.
Thanks to some couragious municipal politicians in four Ont. town with an important francophone constituency, this reality is being recognized and they implemented this bilingual sign law. A sign law that does’nt impose bilingualism on any anglo business owners but is only a show of respect to the francophone.
I understand that Ontario is an english province but english is not at risk ther so, why not show some respect for this community who has contributed a lot to the developpement of it’s province. I repeat, not many jobs in Ontario require anglos to be bilingual. Some, but not many.
The federal government is different. It operates on a two founding people, with two different official languages, principle. Thus, it has more bilingualism requirements.
Need I remind you that Ottawa shares a border with Québec and that it is close to the greater Montréal region.
In a radious of 250km around the federal capital there may be more french speakers than english speakers and most of the french speakers are bilingual. That explains why, FOR NOW, more francophones are qualified get the bilingual desinated jobs in the federal public service. I say FOR NOW, because, tens of thousands of Anglos are taking bilingualism more seriously and, are taking french immersiion classes and, will soon qualify for these bilingual designated jobs and the francophone domination , in this area, will then end.
