Supreme Court of Canada will NOT hear Galganov / Brisson Forced Bilingual Sign Appeal – Breaking

CFN – Human rights champion Howard Galganov reports that today he received the much-anticipated e-mail concerning his petition made to the Supreme Court. The court of last resort was being asked to overturn a decision made by a Superior Court judge that allows muncipalities to over-ride the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Previously an Ontario Superior Court judge ruled that Russell Township violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but that doing so was acceptable. By a very slim majoriy, the township passed a bylaw which demands that all new exterior commercial signage be in English and French, not one or the other and no provision for other languages. Russell was the fourth Eastern Ontario township to do so.
Today the Township of Russell posted the following Press Statement on their website:
“In light of the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in regards to the leave of appeal from Galganov / Brisson versus Russell in the matter related to the Bilingual Sign Bylaw, we are extremely pleased that the plaintiffs were denied the hearing” said Mr. Jean Paul St-Pierre, Mayor for the Township of Russell. “It finally brings closure to the legal proceedings that were, in all instances, decided in favor of the Municipality by the court. The Court reiterates the fact that the Township was in its legal rights to adopt such bylaw and that Mr. Howard Galganov, a non-resident of the municipality, was in no position to contest the bylaw. We now can move forward for the benefit of our communities” concluded Mayor St.Pierre.”
How ironic that some Franco businesses and municipal agencies choose not to adhere to the bylaw. The municipal Fire Hall in Embrun boasts a unilingual sign which reads: “Poste de Pompiers”.

And, as we reported recently, the Francophone cultural/entertainment centre recently replaced its sign with a high tech version, but still in French only. An employee of La Maison des Arts told us that they were zoned differently (institutional/non-profit), then said that it’s because they provide French education. Apparently the centre previously had posted a small sign which explained that rationale. A member of the local community informed us that La Maison des Arts provides day care service for the French Catholic School across the street; would one not think that to be considered a business venture?
Pierre Leroux ran for and became a Russell Councillor two years ago; he told CFN that it’s widely known that one of his motivating forces in running for Council was the fact that he didn’t feel it right the way that bilingualism was forced upon local businesses. As for today’s Supreme Court announcement, as a member of Council he’s happy that the Township will not have to pay for an expensive legal battle (which he feels could have been avoided), but as a person he feels that the decision is wrong.

So, what about everyone else? People are asking ‘What’s the problem with being fair and allowing everyone a similar degree of freedom of expression?’ That’s a great question!
In our short clip, viewers can plainly see that the animated sign is unilingual and hear for themselves the explanation we received from a staff member of the arts centre.
Galganov was among the presenters at the recent annual Christmas Luncheon hosted by Canadians for Language Fairness at an Ottawa area restaurant. At the gathering, Galganov told the crowd:
“If the Supreme Court decides that they’re not going to hear the case, then it becomes the law of Canada. Any municipality can legislate, not just on issues of language and culture, but on any of the guarantees in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter is essentially a Charter of Suggestions. Any time a judge or group of judges of one mindset or the other can decide what is to be protected and what is not to be protected it means we have no guarantees. Freedom of Expression is the foremost guarantee we have in any free society.”
In our highlight video clip (unedited footage provided by Danno Saunt) each of the key presenters at the CLF Luncheon (Beth Trudeau, Howard Galganov, Nick Vandergragt, Brian Lilley, Ron Barr and Jack MacLaren) shares an update on their involvement in the ongoing struggle to preserve basic human rights here in Canada.
It is anticipated that Galganov as well as Language Fairness for All and Canadians for Language Fairness will step up their efforts locally and nationally.

Don Smith reports on a variety of topics, notably good news items as well as social justice issues.

@ highlander, edudyorlik, Ken, eric, helga, cory
If any of you had a sick CHILD, and it is evident the child ,because of illness could not speak for his.or her self, how would you feel if the care provider refused to speak to you in Englsh?
When this is the ONLY way for child’s symptoms to be understood by the care provider.
According to Pierre, thats ok,
So let me understand this, and not exaggerate. A para-medic responds to the call. His first priority is what language the father speaks .
His priority, is NOT CARE OR TREATMENT, BUT LANGUAGE
Oh I see
now if this happened to a french person, say in Ottawa, and an English para-medic, asked the father of a sick french child, Oh do you speak English?
What do you think the reaction of the french in Ottawa would be?
Every pro french group and franco-ontarian organization up to and including graham fraeser would be up in arms to the point of mass revolt.
but it happened in quebec, so who cares right? The kid is English
By the very fact that a para-medic placed language over care says it all.
Please do NOT DOWNPLAY this as if it were a trivial event, the situtation speaks for itself
to my intelligent friends , you know, that trade names are what made companies, and to change is a very big deal. I truly hope they all move out of quebec, and take thousands of jobs with them.
This happened in the mid 1970’s and this was the start of quebec’s have not status that they enjoy today. an economic welfare state. They have never recovered, just look at their deficeit
Also Leo, though i agree it is a waste of time (for the most part) to respond to “them”, I DO also wish to add something that is sort of a back-up to what Bella-b has been saying. When you refute their “garb@ge” everyone else has an opportunity to learn from your info and knowledge. Matter of fact I have learned a few things from your posts already. Thank you for that. I am grateful you have found us here. This is why I was encouraging you to leave me a message on my YouTube page.

FOR ANYONE (you know who you are) to suggest that all is fine now (after the fact) because the little girl recovered and is fine just illustrates how callus and unworthy these people are of the distinction of being classified as a “human beings.” As that particular positive outcome was completely NOT KNOWN at the time this happened and — THAT — is the ONLY element that SHOULD HAVE any relevance and importance at all.

To each his own. To respond to the FRAUD SQUAD directly is lowering my self to a standard that is beneath me, and for that matter beneath the very definition of dignity.
I will however, comment to the intelligent people on this site and point out, as I did in the previous posts ,inaccuracies, lies and just plain nonsense that they spew. I will comment on that, for simple reason they are so wrong and all of what they say is not rooted in factual account of events.
Why admin allows their sarcastic, personal attacks and inflamatory content is beyond me.
Their only comment is life is not fair, get over it.
In any event, I will try to email you in the near future.
Hopefully this will be allowed to be posted so you get this message.

Well written Leo.
Funny thing our local propagandist and English hater Stella has said Language was an integral part of health care when agreeing and defending Cornwall Community Hospitals hiring policy of 50% bilingual.
French first ,french first -The ambulance driver chose politics of language over healthcare!

Well Leo that’s all this french zealots group can spew ,but hey plenty of fodder for you .
Thanks Highlander.
@ Leo
You’re putting words in my mouth again.
That shows your disrespect of others.
What I did say is that, the child had been treated very well, and had recovered very well. The father could speak french but refused to do so. That ‘s probably what infuriated the paramedic.
Now tell us this.
How would francophone children be treated by english paramedics in the Cornwall hospital or anywhere in the ROC if you, the
“nightmare clan” got your way?
Waiting for illumination.
@leo
How to get info to the U.S.A.
Get a list of Edudyorliks videos and email the links to all friends in the U.S.A., paricularly in the border states. Ask for them them to circulate. Above all refer friends in the U.S.A. to CFN link
tap tap…..leo advised evryone “to ignore” Doesn’t ignore mean to intentionally disregard? He is not a man of his word as he continues to respond which means he is not practicing what he preaches **smile**
In response to Pierre, exactly what my earlier post said…..they only tell half the story to make their case more dramatic…..LOL Don’t worry, the majority of Canadians are aware of their tactics and would find it amusing if it wasn’t so pathetic…..
tap tap……I would rather have no facts then to fabricate facts like you do. What good are facts if they are not true and exagerated to the point of ridiculousness? I would would rather have no facts then to pass for a fool when fabricating stories that are not accurate…..but, all is not lost, in a sense your facts does add humor to this subject **smile**
@leo/bella-b
With respect and this is the only media to mention what I am seeing in yur blogs. Ease up on each other, the opposition will revel in your mutual exchanges.
Leo, in responding to supporters about S,P and E you are doing exactly, indirectly, what you said you wouldn’t do
Stay focussed we, need solidarity.
To Leo,
If the big box stores lose their court case, you can bet that they’ll move out of Quebec. Think about it, a company’s trademark sign is such that – a representation of the company itself; much like a flag representing a nation. With a company name change – you don’t have the same company. I’m not sure of the legal mess but I think that there is an actual change in legal status of a company’s registration and such. If big box names are changed, do they then become a subsidiary of the parent company?
Best Buy is just that – a Best Buy whether in France, Great Britain or the United States or even China. Imagine if in Las Vegas and the United States as a whole there were language laws instituted with the vigour of vengeance of Quebec style linguistic laws. Imagine if political representatives of Las Vegas insisted that the ‘Cirque du Soleil’ trademark be changed in Vegas to ‘Circus of the Sun’. See my point? All of this crap is just social engineering all over again. Well, again and again and again…………
And why is it only happen in Quebec?
The real losers in all of this sign crap whether in Quebec or Eastern Ontario will be the business owners and the people being served.

Ken……here is the answer that was posted 4 days ago that you keep on saying I never answered **smile**
Anyone with enough insight and intuition who resides in a country where there are two official languages should have taken the initiative to learn both languages. Language WAS NEVER forced on anyone, it was a personal choice. That being said, if you chose the easy way out and refused to learn french, that was your choice……why blame others for bad choices you made in life?……..ca-va
””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
THAT IS NOT AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTON.
I asked quite simply: Is losing your job because you don’t speak the same language as your new boss a short coming.
Now answer that with a simple yes or no.
Point number two.
I was in my job, a very good choice, before the parachuted Francophone boss arrived and declared my position bilingual and then plotted to get me out ONLY BECAUSE I AM ENGLISH.
Point number three. With translators I had no problem communicating with employees and I could read and write some French.
@Kerry.
Kerry, where did you suddenly come from with such strong comments to one of our most well informed supporters.
Edudyorliks videos tell more than a thousand words could on these blogs.
You said, “on the hill this coming summer when we tell the government”. May I surmise that you are taking the lead to organise a rally on the hill?
@ edudyourlik
I’ve watched the two vileos you posted.
Did you notice that they contradict each other.
The first stucked to the facts and the other (the sun) gave a very patial oponion. I guess we can’t expect anything better from that cr@ of a newspaper called the sun.
Anyways. A closer look at the situation should show, to any fair minded, non racist reader, that in was, in fact, the parents who
trned this infortunate incident into a political issue.
Readers, out there, place yours in that situation, in the situation of the french speaking paramedics,. You have a two year old child on the floor having a seizure and the little girl is not responding to the efforts on the paramedics at this point. Very unnerving situation that’s not being helped by the freaked out parents and a father who wants he paramedics to talk to them, in english only.
At that point one of the paramedics says to the father’ “je parle français”
@ edudyoulik
Sorry folks, I pressed the “Post Comment” button, by mistake.
Anyways to finish. the words “Je parle français” should be understood by, any open-minded observer, as meaning ” Would you please, get out of the way, sir, can’t you see were busy, here”.
The child was saved and then, as confermed in one of your videos. The paramedics did speak to the parents, in english.
I guess, you would have cut that last part out of the video, had you been able to, eh edudyorlik.
“Je parle français” should be understood by, any open-minded observer, as meaning ” Would you please, get out of the way, sir, can’t you see were busy, here”.
Ummmm pretty sure it means “Do you speak french?” to everybody but you apparently. maybe “excuse moi” or “pardon” is what you were going for?
Which leads me to ask pierre, I thought the argument for hiring so many bilingual/french employees at the hospital was for the comfort of the french/bilingual patient. So they could communicate in the language they are most comfortable in, especially in time of crisis. But you are saying that english speaking Canadians do not deserve to be treated in the language of their choice? In the language they are most comfortable with, especially in times of stress and crisis. Why the double standard? I’m sure just like the paramedic you refer to in your post, provided the necessary care to help the child regardless of the language he spoke, one could get the same care at the CCH no matter what language the caretaker spoke.
@Cory Cameron RE: January 6, 2013 at 9:41 am POST
Cory wrote, “If the big box stores lose their court case.”
The dirty little secret Cory is that Bill 101 DOES NOT cover this as it still has the original concept that those big stores were exempt. The Quebec government is TRYING to force these stores to comply without opening Bill 101 again because they know (i have video for this btw) that if they do open it then that law itself (bill 101) will become susceptible to more and other challenges. In other words they would have to change the law to make it binding.
The companies know this and thus if anything DOES happen it will be a behind the scenes deal (you know the ones Quebec is so famous for) involving cash or perhaps special privileges. This is partially why bill 14 was introduced also.
@Ken: don’t put somebody’s words in my mouth. Those were edudyiorlic’s words addressed to Pierre on January 4, 2013 at 3:05 pm:
“…Right on Pierre. So, I guess you will be with standing with us on the hill this coming summer when we tell the government we want to do away with official bilingualism OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. This is EXACTLY what we are saying and what we believe should be done.”
My reply on January 4, 2013 at 8:57 pm was:
“edudyorlic, when you said what you said, you are not speaking for me or for any Anglos fighting to end official bilingualism IN the Canadian government, its 200 Crown Corporations and third parties doing business with government. I can only surmise you had “a moment” when you wrote…” (quoting his post above).
I was stunned of what he said, because in his previous posts edydiorlic was even against “where numbers warrant” cr@p. I thought he was against official bilingualism, period, without any qualifiers.
Thank you for giving me direction on U.S. contacts
Through a business associate, I have complied a very long list of U.S. contacts, all bussiness related
I have forwarded, at least 20 anti- English articles and videos to them, edudyorlik’s among them . I try to forward 20 a day, the list is very extensive.
I have also forwarded to tourist sites and related organizations
They assure me, that the word will get out in order to ensure people fully understand the discriminatory laws and practices of both quebec and other anti-Englsih regions of canada.
Given these are crediable sources they will be taken seriously.
I will not let up on the pressure, and many of these people I know personally.
I have left my email address for them to contact me as well.

@ Bella-B
excellent post. It will fall on FRAUD SQUAD’S deaf ears , but oh how true
Ken……..YES IT IS!! got that?
I will tell you why……this country is comprised with 2 official languages French and english….got it so far?
Working in Quebec of all places you should known better. You should have taken the initiative and had enough intuition to forsee that french was imperative or would become an issue eventually.
Ken also said……..With translators I had no problem communicating with employees and I could read and write some French.
The majic word there is “TRANSLATERS”……which indicates that you were not fully qualified for a job that required both languages.
@bella-b RE: January 6, 2013 at 1:16 pm POST
Great post Bella-b. Don’t you know, Pierre and his ilk only deem THEIR language to be important enough for others to HAVE TO LEARN IT.
–
Pierre, you are so far impregnated with your backwards view that your responses are just pure head shaking nausea.
–
First of all PLEASE understand. This man of which you speak. This father who was in distress with his young child potentially dying IS NOT the one who should be expected to comply with such stupidity. Further more, this father and that paramedic BOTH LIVE in a FREEKIN country which IN CASE YOU ARE TOO enamored with your french ideals to notice, happens to be a country that is — not only 94% NON French but it is also what HUMANITY (that means everyone but you Pierre) in general would refer to as a country who’s common language IS FREEKIN ENGLISH.
Pierre wrote, “I guess, you would have cut that last part out of the video, had you been able to, eh edudyorlik.”
–
Not to worry Pierre i could very well have cut ANY PART out if i choose to.
But, i CHOOSE to leave it — as is — As a matter of fact i left out a part where ONE OF YOUR own (meaning a French person who happens to be a patients rights advocate in QUEBEC) is opposing you and your ridicules views saying the paramedic was wrong and SHOULD KNOW ENGLISH IN THIS COUNTRY.
I have decided to go ahead and include this now JUST FOR YOU.
–
You, my friend are so freekin well beyond help it’s not funny.

Hey Leo, here’s one (for starters) you can send to the Americans…

Have yous freedom-fighters thought about getting any high-profile and credible media types like Ezra Levant involved with your cause?
Just a thought.
Fight On!
@Edudyorlik
well said , re: your last post.
I can only conclude, seeing the video about the sick child, that at least one member of the FRAUD SQUAD, the one that defends the action sof the para medics , would rather see a child’s life put at risk, or even die. before they would speak English
This is the same mentality that was exhibited by jacques and paul rose and lortie when they murdered Pierre LaPorte and
kidknapped James Cross.
it is the french languasge AT ALL COSTS, even if it potentially results in a child dying.
leo wrote: This is the same mentality that was exhibited by jacques and paul rose and lortie when they murdered Pierre LaPorte and kidknapped James Cross
Thinking you forgot Bain an english freedom fighter who shot a french man in Montreal
leo also wrote: it is the french languasge AT ALL COSTS, even if it potentially results in a child dying. OMG…….just how dramatic can one get? Folks….don’t let that frighten you…….dramatized to the limit **s**
@ edudyorlik, Ken, cory, bella_b, rosie, helga, highlander et al.
As a follow up to my last post and to illustrate that the above post about the sick child in quebec was not isolated ,I would like to tell you the experience of Mrs. Norah Kearney
In 2000 she was admitted to the Verdun General Hospital in verdun Quebec.
Until her death in 2003 at age 97, she was never adressed to in English, although all the personal were bilingual,
Her meal menus were in french, her orderlys were french and her entire expiernce was one of being ignored.
Here was a lady, who had paid taxes in quebec for over 75 years, and yet this is how she was treated. BECAUSE SHE WAS ENGLISH
Social events were in french only and this despite the fact that 35% of the ward was English
MdM. Parent the head nurse said “we don’t have to speak English’ Bill101
There were also other patients there treatede the same way:
Mr. James Friedman
Mrs. M. Ramous
Mr. Clyde Parrish
Mrs. Agnes booker
These are but a few.
There were also a number of complaints through the head nurse and administration, but to no avail, “We don’t have to speak English, so we won:t” Bill 101
This is similar to the deep south of the 1950’s and 1960’s
Can anyone tell me how these experiences causes a threat to the french language, or how a child’s illness , if English, is a threat to the french language in quebec?
These and many more similar instances happen each and every day in quebec, and are never reported. I can docuement and put forth many, many business people at all levels have experienced this.
The point here, is that the laws of quebec, its culture and its xenaphobic mannerisms are pure and simply anti-English and racist.
Where is the threat here? A 97 year old lady and a 2 year old child?
This are the types of laws and situtations that will come to eastern Ontario and Ottawa if these fench zealots are not stopped.
That is why, get rid of quebec ASAP and all that they represent.
That is why, actions need to happen now!!!!
Boycotts, political actions committees, formation of political party, MPP pressure, witholding of funding and volunteering at any and all institutions that endose or support bilingualism.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
We also need leadership modelled after a Mike Harris or similar.
It has to come from THE PEOPLE
Thanks Ken. I think i was the one that caused the uncertainty …
–
Actually Kelly, my statement MAY have indeed been confusing. Sorry to have “stunned” you.
–
I shall “try” to clarify. I AM indeed against the “where numbers warrant” concept. Youp got that 100% right.
–
I am against that because that can easily be used against us and in favor of the other side, as what IS sort of is being done now in eastern Ontario and other places. BUT, that is a completely different issue from the federal government part and that is where i appologise if i was un-clear.
–
I believe I did state my stance in this blog on a few occasions but, i don’t expect you would have seen all my posts so, that’s fine.
It may even be something in one of my vid’s.
–
I have always believed that the original idea concept that Trudeau announced –
–
back when i was a teenager living with my 100% French mother and my English father in Quebec –
–
was a just and fair way to deal with this situation. When speaking about this I even expanded it to include the possibility that many English Canadians felt the same way given what i felt the mood was at that time.
–
It seemed that we all collectively accepted Trudeau suggestion that the Federal government would offer it’s services to the French Canadians in their language. To be honest, I still believe, considering Canada’s historical fact, that this be the case.
–
However, I CERTAINLY DO NOT like, or agree with, how they have commandeered and abused that sense of fairness and kindness and turned it into what we see today but… That abuse and so on is what our opposition (or should i say – my – ) opposition is all about now.
–
Now, this DOIES NOT MEAN that the federal government must be 100% bilingual. I AM NOT in favor of that AT ALL. That is simply unnecessary, costly and VERY discriminatory against the majority Anglophone tax paying citizens in this country.
As far as i am concerned, I believe it is a travesty –
and i honestly CANNOT comprehend how it can be an accepted thing
— that our prime minister, leader of the official opposition and also most MP’s etc MUST BE CHOOSEN from among a mere 20% (at best) portion of Canada’s “bilingual” population. Thus leaving out many good hard working, tax paying, law abiding, Anglophone (English) Canadians citizens.
I just cannot understand how the — MAJORITY — Anglophones accept this as being the norm, let alone – FAIR —
SO, i guess my stance would officially be, — we should do away with official bilingualism outside the federal government – AND – go back to what we originally agreed concept of offering serves to our French compatriots ONLY WITHIN the federal government in their language.
–
All this of course is within the framework of the Canada we have right now.
–
If things happen that are beyond my imagination and ability to foresee then i would understandably reserve the right to amend my stance accordingly.
–
Hope that clears thing up for everyone.
–
In solidarity…

I just forwarded your latest video to a goodly number of people , along with one of the FRAUD SQUAD’S comments in-setted within the video frames.
They ( FRAUD SQUAD) even try to justify prioritizing the french language over LIFE , a 2year old girl.
Well its an English life, so who cares right?
The nazis thought along those lines, about the jews, didn’t they?
Very creative and most accurare.
I was wondering if these could be sent to M.P’S in Ottawa and Queen’s park
Their email addresses are in the public domain and a mass mailout could be done
What do you think?
Also, the letter sent to Mr. Hudak’s office would be very appropriate
great video, keep up the god work and \i;ll email them as fast as I get them

Pierre I am a founder & member of Language Fairness for ALL, as well as a Registered Nurse. You above comment is beyond belief & this is why I feel I must comment on behalf of the health care professionals that are LFA members, which in fact is MANY!
The care of the patient is above all else whether it be race, religion, color, gender, age, sexual orientation or language. A medical professional does not judge patients we simply help patients in whatever way we can.
To insinuate “we” would intentionally harm, neglect or mistreat a patient is pure propaganda & highly unethical.
LFA is fighting for the rights of ALL Canadians & will continue to so until the pendulum returns to center. We believe in fair government hiring practices & Freedom of Expression.
For those interested in joining our group, please ask admin for our email or go to http://www.languagefairnessforall.org. Memberships are $10/yr.
As for Pierre as much as I despise your mentality & ignorance I would treat you the same as any other patient . Can you say the same, not likely, nor could Jean LeCompte…
@ debbie,
Well said debbie, a class act
Are you a mental health professional?
To treat pierre, you would have to be
Leo. Tim Hudak? Are you serious? He doesn’t know if he should poop or wind his watch right now. I’m sure his advisers will keep him away from any English-Rights causes and demos. He doesn’t want to blow another election.
So… Any of yous freedom-fighters hook up with Ezra Levant yet? He works for cheap and will get yous some national exposure if yous can work out a deal.
Also, I’m curious as to whether the mattress-tossing contest on Parliament Hill will be properly sanctioned by the MTC (Mattress Tossing Canada). Will yous be using standard weight single mattresses, or will there be various classes with various weights and sizes?
I’m really looking forward to watching, and maybe participating in this historic event.
edudyorlic, where do you see “official bilingualism OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT” so you feel the need to demonstrate against it on the Parliament Hill? Would you give some examples?
@ Kerry. Wherever and whenever a true English-Rights freedom-fighter sniffs out or encounters the French language, it is his or her duty to expose it and snuff it out. It’s a matter of taking our country back, don’t you know. There’s something about the purity and superiority of the English language that has to be defended and preserved at all cost. And there seems to be a brave bunch of heroic freedom-fighters posting on this site who are willing to put their lives on the line to do just that!
God bless them all.

After all, any people (especially those in the health care and the care of elderly) that would treat other human beings (their fellow Canadians, no less) like dirt in this way just because they speak a different language (i also have my own personal experiences with this as well) MAY not deserve my kind heartedness.

Naw, i am going to continue to be the bigger person … FOR NOW…

OK, one more last thing 😉

@Debbie C. My membership fee is on the way 🙂 Keep up the good work. Together, we can (AND WILL ULTIMATELY) move mountains.

@Kerry. My last reply to you was rather detailed as to where I stand and also somewhat apologetic to you as well. I must say, i am now questioning whether the apologetic tone was deserved. Since youo gave the imporession you were on the sane side of this situation I WAS trying to be friendly. Yet, I now feel there is an element regarding semantics that has entered into the fray that frankly has a week old unrefrigerated piece of meat edge to it.
To which I say, If you cannot determine my position from my last response then that is just too bad. Let’s just say you were right, and i did have “a moment.”
–
I would however like to expand on Ken’s statement re: The rally (which BTW, in case you are UNAWARE — I was the first to suggest — )
Considering your “not so subtle request” was for me to abstain from making any speeches. I MUST then assume that YOU have decided to take on this task.
–
Since that seem to be the case I say, “good for you. Go for it, an inspiring leader — we do need.”
–
I wish you well and hope you can live up to the task. Best prepare a good speech as I (and many others) WILL be watching and hoping that you will have the ability to inspire thousands of other Anglophone Canadians to join in before they find themselves thrown out of their employment positions (like Ken was) or worse yet, not being able to get jobs to support their families in their own country without the knowledge of French.

In solidarity (i think)
@ Kerry
Why is the federal government bilingual when only 27% of Canadians are francophone?
from the 27% that are francophone, a full 23% of that number are from quebec
Why are 65% of the federal jobs held by franophones, when there is ONLY 27% of the population that are francophone
Outside of the federal government the following are deemed bilingual:
How about the CCH hospital in Cornwall, where there is only a miniscule number of french people. I think Cornwall has a polulation of 46,000 and not even 2000 are french
More lost English jobs, and for no reason
Jean Coutu not having Englidh greeting cards in Alexandria
The segregation of school children by language in Alexandria
Signage in Enbrum, french only on arts schools and fire stations.
Russell township along with three others designated as bilingual on private business signs.
Ottawa general hospital, and its 5 campuses designated as bilingual
The city of Ottawa is 84% English, and only 1 in 10 are french patients, yet management and upper management jobs HAVE TO BE BILINGUAL
The city also gives contract approval to quebec contractors, ( See article in the Ottawa citizen and the comments of Ron Barr,) he is fighting the issues that quebec contractors are given prioity over Ontario contractors Re; Snow removal +
Over 80% of these jobs are held by residents of quebec, who «DO NOT CONTRIBUTE to the ontario or Ottawa ccommunities, yet they are given priority here because they are bilingual.
This deprives, English people of jobs, that in a community and city that is 84% English they have a right to, particularly when they contribute tax money and spend in the Ontario and Ottawa communities. They also are THE MAJORITY
There is no need for bilingualsm in an nation where only 27% are french, and without quebec that number would be only 4%.
Now, how many jobs are bilingual in quebec
Answer 0
I’d so good for them. The Supreme Court has more important matters to deal with. Haven’t red any of the comments in a while or post in a while..I see nothing has changed. Still a lot of pro galganov fans and I don’t see why. The man doesn’t even live in Russell, come on !! It’s like me, living in Cornwall protesting the location of a specific park in Hawkesbury. Its like me living in Cornwall protesting the renaming of part of Dorchester street in Montreal to boulevard rené lévesque. It’s none of my business.
It seems to be OK Richard tremblay for Russell Township to hire a Lawyer form out of town though!
It would be a sad world if people nearby could not help other neighbours, or even countries like Haiti when disaster strikes.
We need to get government out of this language business right after they set conditions of fairness in place.
@ Debie Cameron
The LFA is nothing but a racist organisation, that is going nowhere.
We’re talking about language here, nohing else.
So, when I ask you(s) how “would francophone children be treated by english paramedics in Cornwall or anywhere else in the ROC, if you(s) had your way, what I’m asking you(s) is, what language would your paramedics use when treating francophone children.
Would they speak french to them or to their francophone parents???
That’s a question, if you did’nt notice.
Your friends are no good at answering questions.
Are you any better? Debbie Dameron.
Slip of the finger. I meant to write Debbie Cameron.
Pierre I think 99.9% of paramedics would try and communicate with a sick patient in their language as best they can or politely say they couldn’t if they in fact could not.
Are you really trying to compare against the allegations of the Paramedic case in Quebec?
That person, if those allegations are true should be fired. End of.
@ Kerry
Hi!
There is bilingualism outside of the federal government. The provincial courts in Québec are bilingual as they are in eastern and northern Ontario. Courts in N.B. are also bilingal. Universities in Québec are bilingual as they are in Ottawa and some are in N.B.
All hospitals in western Québec are bilingual but, it must be said that, some of the english hospitals there have trouble, providing decent linguistic service to their francophone patients. There is bilingualism in some Otawa hopitals. I believe that the best bilingualism services are provided at the Monfort, a french hospital.
There are many bilingual municipalities in Québec… I believe more than in Ontario.
Many/most private businesses in Ottawa and in the Outaouais choose to be bilingual because their clientelle is francophone and anglophone. Many of these businesses do business on both sides of the river. Nothing official, just good business sense as both sides of the river are part of the National Capital Region.
Pierre said,
“The LFA is nothing but a racist organisation, that is going nowhere”
Interesting statement, so LFA is as you say “racist” because we promote fairness for ALL???
Does standing up for my rights bother you??? Shame on you Pierre of Ed or whoever the he** you are!!!!

Welcome to Language Fairness for All – LFA
Our Philosophy: English is the working language of Canada and much of the world. A grasp of ALL other languages should be considered an asset, but not mandatory. People are equal, but languages are not.
Our Mission Statement: Fair hiring practices for ALL Canadians through representation by population.
Our Motto: Choose language fairness, not sides.”
Pierre said,
“Would they speak french to them or to their francophone parents???”
If the medical attendant spoke another language, whether it be French, Mohawk, Punjabi, Mandarin-YES, I believe they would speak whatever language necessary to communicate. Why wouldn’t they???
So my question to you is- Would you let an English nurse like me care for you or must I speak French to be “good” enough???
FYI: mt last name is Cameron, not Dameron, a Freudian slip Pierre???
@ admin
Why are you allowing Pierre to get away with insults and calling CLF racist?
When we respond in kind we are threatened with sanctions and being banned?
He even went so far as to mock her name
An answer would be nice, all of us would like a level playing field
here.
“Just good business sense” Pierre? That is a main argument! 74% of the Russell Township business community had bilingual signs, why the loss of democracy and freedom of expression to implement a bylaw forcing them then? Allow the business to decide.
Just had a look at the LFA website, don’t see how racist comes into play.

And you say that you’re no bigoted. Well, if you’re not, they should scratch the word out of the dictionary because it does’nt exist.
You’ve read my post jan 9, 11:10 am.
Read it again with an open mind.
People (french and english speakers) often say that they can’t speak (forget) their second language in a stressed situation.
We don’t know if that’s what happened in this case or if this paramedic simply could not speak english but, bilingualism is not deemed essential for paramedics in Québec and in Canada.
These are two reasons this paramedic should not have been fired and will not be fired.
You refuse to see that it was the parents who turned this grave incident into an anti french political statement but, it was not the paramedics that called the press to complain that the parents had refused to ask information, in french.
At least one of the paramedics did speak english, to the parents, after the situation, had been controled.
These parents should have just thanked the paramedics for saving their lives as any fair-minded persons would have.
End of story!
Jamie wrote: “That person, if those allegations are true” Folks……..that is the problem, the many scenarios the english freedom fighters bring up are exagerated to the hilt…..laughable and truly lack credibility…..but the fight must go on.
I was moved to tears when reading leo’s and yorlik’s post this morning and still crying. What a terrible country we live in….baby’s dying over language issues….terrible.
I am sending off some of those videos to friends in Malaysia today **smile**
@ Edudyorlik, Ken, Eric, bella-b, highlander, cory et al
When a person is so indoctranated that they put children’s lives at stake over language, what does that say?
To defend the indefenseable is very, very sick.
Then, to insult a health care worker, but adding to this defense by calling an organiztion she is a member of racist without backing up this statement, is called SLANDER.
I wonder, if CLF is characterized as racist, what would you call the quebec government?
The P.Q. Party?
The FLQ?
The RIN?
Bill 101
The exageration brought forth by the english freedom fighters, is highly inflated.
I have friends who live in Ville Lasalle who are unilingual english and let me assure you they all have good jobs, one is a dentist. NONE and I mean NONE has ever had an issue with language. No problem getting treatment when needed, no problem getting served in english in any public place.
The real and ONLY problem is the english freedom fighters who hate the french and want to eliminate their culture.
Just like Russian children are taught the common language of that country
— Russian —
–
Francophone children should be taught the common language of this country, Canada
— English —
–
There, problem solved.
If you want a different common language, a different flag and different laws then fine. We accept that and you can have it. Let’s move on.
–
— BUT —
–
YOU CANNOT have any more of “our money” to sponsor AND OF IT as we don’t want your flag, your laws, and your language – period – WHY? Because we have our own thank you.
–
And we’re just as proud of ours — as you are of yours —
