CFN – Rookie Habs Alex Galchenyuk & Brendan Gallagher both picked up their first NHL points as Montreal skinned the Panthers 4-1 in front of their home town fans.
Andrei Markov notched two PP goals and looked good against what looked like a tired Florida squad.
Carey Price made some key saves and Tomas Plekanec opened the scoring early in the first.
Ryan White notched 27 minutes in penalities over a play that’s drawn some criticism, but for years the Habs were criticized for not standing up for each other and it certainly looked like White was standing up for the beloved Josh Gorges who was hit from behind.
In other matches Tampa Bay defeated Carolina 4-1 thanks to some incredible goal tending by Mathieu Garon who saved 35 of 36 shots. Carolina’s power play was looking particularly strong. Winnipeg doubled Washington 4-2 on goals by Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler, and Jim Slater. Alex Ovechkin was held to an assist on 4 shots.
Marty Brodeur added a shut out to his legend with the Devils 3-0 shut out win which was marred with some rough and tumble stuff including David Clarkson & Wayne Simmonds having a dance at Centre Ice.
Former Hab Michael Ryder’s 2 goals gave Dallas a win over Detroit. Nashville put down the Wolves 3-1, Chicago edged St. Louis 3-2, Colorado 3 Los Angeles 1; and San Jose doubled Edmonton 6-3 with number one overall draft pick Nail Yakupov notching his first NHL goal. It was 6-1 SJ at the end of the 1st period with Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk getting the yank.
The Flyers are 0-3 to start the 2013 season. Expect an explosion any minute…
