100 Letter Cornwall Competition – Poetry! Michael Altieri of Cornwall Ontario – February 2, 2013
I CORNWALL
.
New Johnstown was my name, before I became popular.
.
People came to me from far away.
.
With the arrival of George Cornwallis I was given a new name.
.
Those who left me were thought to be free of me.
.
Those who came to me, were given a new beginning.
.
Together we grew into what we are today
.
a foothold from generation to generation.
.
To my East is my mouth, to my North is my Capital,
.
To my West is my breath and to my South is what I am all about.
.
I stood tall when I watched my children fall.
.
I offered them my land so that their children could make a stand.
.
Many of them fought on other land and for those who came back
.
I read their names and prayed for them from their own
.
back yard. And may their silence guide us to peace.
.
(In memory of our fallen heroes. Michael Altieri)
.

A re-read brought to light the intent, the location, the time frame. Together we get and got our beloved CORNWALL.

You did a fine relationship piece here Michael. Nice. It may find it’s way into our city montage one day.
