We’ve all wanted to go postal (all pun intended) at some time or another. The type of day where you regret even leaving your front door to face the day. The sort of day where you know that whatever you do, you just cannot make any headway nor win your cause in the least bit. We’ve all had those kinds of days whereby, ’ The Shirelles’ invented the song, “Mama Said” to describe them.
And so it was a normal, cool, crisp and sunny Northern Ontario morning last April whenever I left the house to mail a letter at the Post Office. I had not much to do that day; and figured I would take complete advantage of the time I had to run a few errands. My first step was the Post Office.
There was no lineup when I arrived and felt blessed that my luck was so far, so good. I was wrong though. As I approached the mid-age woman working behind the desk I greeted her and wished her a good morning and requested to purchase a stamp in the language of my choice, which happens to be English. She obliged by producing the stamp and not returning the greeting in English nor French. The remainder of our exchange during the few minutes had me requesting my service in English whereby her portion of the exchange was conducted in French.
Now, normally this situation wouldn’t be a problem for me as everyone knows I’m bilingual. But on this particular day, I couldn’t get over the fact that I showed absolutely no inclination at all as to being bilingual. Why wasn’t I served in English when clearly I greeted the worker in English upon the beginning of our exchange? Further, why didn’t the Postal Worker switch to English whenever I was communicating in said language? I could have switched to French but I decided not to. My idea in this decision had to do with the fact that I felt that the worker was obligated to provide me with the service in English simply because I was the customer. This would have been different if at any time she had informed me that she couldn’t speak English and would try to accommodate me by other means. One such solution she could have sought out would be to perhaps seek out the services of another Postal Worker to serve me if she didn’t speak English herself.
In any case, I didn’t complain. That is, I didn’t file a complaint at the Post Office. As an aside, I have come across instances like this a few dozen times during the course of business transactions with civil service workers throughout the years and even some in the private industry. And, after all was said and done, I never complained. I had simply grown accustomed to situations like the one above and there is an argument to be made that I had become somewhat conditioned by these scenarios over the years.
Until now…
Perhaps it’s my newfound sense of fairness and pride that has awakened within me during these past two years. Perhaps now that I’m a little longer in the tooth, I have decided that I no longer will take things lying down as it were.
I’m tired…
It’s one thing to learn a minority language and to enjoy the privileges of being able to read, write and speak in French. But for what purpose and intent? And to who’s benefit is it that I am bilingual? Myself or to those whom I communicate with who have French as a first language? I can honestly state that being bilingual hasn’t furthered my career options nor has it had the desired effect of garnishing career advancement opportunities for me in the job that I do have. Moreover, I get the feeling that being bilingual for many of us Anglophones simply equates to making it easier for the Francophones to not have to learn English in order to communicate with us – such as in daily merchant transactions.
Enough…
It was with all of these thoughts swirling within my consciousness that April day that I made the conscientious decision to file a complaint with Canada’s, ‘Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages’. Before doing so, however, I ensured that I had a valid complaint to begin with and checked out the ‘Filing a Complaint’ section, sub-section, ‘In what situations can I file a complaint’. After reviewing the information, I determined that I did in fact have a valid complaint and filed an online complaint the day of my Post Office visit and an initial response was forthcoming from a representative within a week of filing the complaint.
The representative advised me that in order to solve the dilemma of what had occurred an investigation would take place as to the incident itself. Having said that, keep in mind that my complaint was well documented and filed only after a few hours of the incident taking place. Everything that happened was written succinctly on the initial report!
So, after e-mail and playing telephone tag to which more than a half dozen e-mails and a half dozen telephone calls were sent between myself and the representative detailing what had occurred; I emphasized and re-emphasized that I wanted only one question answered – and that was the following:
Why, was I spoken to in French whenever I clearly communicated in English?
All of this to say that as month 3 was coming around the corner subsequent to the initial incident; I was informed that the investigation was completed and that the results would soon be forthcoming. I have a few questions as to this entire affair after having gone through this experience. One being why haven’t I been provided with a response yet after 3 months? Certainly this is a cut and paste situation?
Why?
Exactly what justifies the creation of an, “Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages” to begin with. As of 2011, there were 518 complaints that the office dealt with having to do with language issues. On October 16, 2012 a Globe and Mail article reported that,
“Almost half of the 518 complaints came from the area around Ottawa and adjacent Gatineau, Que., …” (http://www.theglobeandmail.
Are Canadian taxpayers being led to believe that 518 language-related complaints warrant a full-time staff being paid civil service wages to investigate this? I cannot help but comment that more work is done during an 8 hour shift by a half dozen or less call centre employees who themselves individually handle on average a little more than 100 calls a day. It seems as though by comparing stats, we’re not exactly getting a great bang for our buck. So, I would argue that what we have here is but another example of government incompetence; a type and kind of federal government language police make-work project that our taxes are paying for.
And I’ll say this much. We already have a set of language police in this country. We don’t require the services of another; let alone the foundational Office quebecois de la langue francaise.
Ask yourselves this much: Will it take over 3 months to solve your next computer or cell phone issue by someone making minimum wage? Probably not. So why would something so trivial take so long to conclude by someone being paid so much?

I think Cory Cameron said, in a roundabout way, that he and others have received threats from some people who post on this site. Is that correct? If that is true, I’m sure the police are looking into it. Nobody should be threatened for having an opinion.
When was the last time a member of CLF, LFA distributed pamphlets such as those distributed by Mr. Bilingualism himself at an earlier LFA meeting?
What integrity?! Interupting Mr. Galganov’s speech at the LFA meeting only to draw attention to himself by handing out patronizing material en masse to the assembled.
“How is your attempt to INTIMIDATE with POLICE INTERVENTION , any different to what so many in this community have found to be deplorable and callus attempt
from city Officials in use of their INTIMIDATION and SUPPRESSION tactics?”
The police intervention has been done in a most respectful manner in a defensive position after some research as to someone’s family being threatened as well as some other things that will not be mentioned in this forum.
Guess what? LFA are not elected officials.
But I think some here wish LFA, CLF members were elected officials so that we could be hung out in the town square.
We’re commenting on what we see to be unfair hiring policies. But you’re defending them. Going so far as to accuse myself and others as being anti-French. But, I’ll let others defend themselves. I married a French woman and an Metis myself. I speak Francais 55% of the time.
This is telling me that you think the status quo is fine and alright. So long as laws/policies benefit a segment of the population you belong to.
Trust me, if there were a regulation 17 in Ontario right now still threatening the French language, I would be fighting with the same furor I currently do now to rid the law. I care not what language is propped up/beaten down. The fact remains that the English language and practicioners in Quebec are oppressed and this mentality has creeped into Ontario. No better is this an example, as comments expressed by the likes of Stella, Richard, HFTT over these last few years supporting language laws, Canada over.
Think I’m afraid of going against the grain? Well, I’ll let my past actions prove the exact opposite. Just have a look see at my LTE’s on CFN here.
100% bilingualism? You cannot argue that this doesn’t create an elitist atmosphere for French Canadians in all things jobs. I’m calling out unfair government policies – you’re making me out to be anti-French! Why not defend this unfair policy instead of opting to throw me under the bus as being anti-French? I’ll tell you why. Because you cannot argue that the French population is a minority outside of Quebec and that government policies really don’t require 100% bilingual hires in Canada. This is social engineering. Government hires really even don’t require 100% English nor French now, do they? I think this policy is both discriminatory to new Canadians whose language more often than not isn’t English or French. What about all of the ethnic Chinese Canadians who have a limited knowledge of English or French?
I tend to think that like the rest of the world, Canada should follow suit and let market forces decide what language to use. And if I was so anti-French, why would I have married a French woman? (By the way, I’m still waiting for an answer to that question).
I would think that you guys would be arguing with us for the abiliity to post in whatever language you like. (South Stormont allows for any language to be posted – that’s right, the freedom to choose what language is posted without having to post English and French as well along with the language a business owner wants.)
But hence, I guess my understanding of Freedom of Expression may be different than yours.
I said in a post over two years ago that for your side of the equation I could call you guys all kinds of things. But it would be more offensive if it were in your own language; which happens to be French. But I hinted at something telling as well in this statement. I advised you that unlike you, I’d be equally offended if you insulted me in any language, whatsoever.
WHy is it that in that particular super-hyper mode you guys are famous for, you resort to communicating in French to one-another or insulting me in French; much to the dismay of most of the people here who don’t understand what you’re saying?
You see; I’m offended equally regardless of the language in which the insult is written.
For the benefit of the readers of CFN; can you say the same? Would the insult sting the same if written in English, French or Russian?
I’m not particularly bothered to not be able to comprehend Mohawk or Gaelic (two languages that are a part of my traditional ethnic make-up).
What is the fascination for your defence of your primary language? I don’t think it’s even a defence anymore as it has morphed into an offensive position within the Canadian psyche – where French now needs to be first, only or always.
Somewhere along the development of New France (Quebec) some French sociologist/linguist must have gotten it so so wrong to think that language is the be all and end all of culture.

Richard wrote, “Before printing anything kilroy, be sure and actually visit Québec. You badmouth it by going just word of mouth…go to vieux port montreal and order in english, go to Pointe-claire, Lachute, Vaudreuil, Kirkland… and on and on.”
Firstly Richard. Don’t be thinking that you can tell me what to do, and what not to do. That function is reserved for my wife.
🙂
Secondly. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST vieux Montreal or ANY PART of Quebec for that matter. Further more, i generally speaking, have no problem with a great deal of very warm, nice, fair minded French people who don’t happen to believe that they are better because they are French.
That being said, what i DO have a MAJOR problem with is indeed that particular group of French people who believe that their language and culture is better than mine to the degree that mine must take second place and be smaller font size. That kind of thinking should be laughed completely our of any civilized country. And don’t give me that old save my culture cr@p. Using that excuse doesn’t make it real or valid.
There MAY OR MAY NOT be many of those type, that is up for debate, but “those type” combined with the French kind of “in your face” attitude means that they tend to stand out the most.
You know, like these guys protesting because two English bands happen to be involved with St Jean celebrates. (i think they sang four out of the 30 or 40 songs that were sung that day).
How freakin scared of assimilation can a culture be? Shesh… Really? English on a yogurt spoon? The word Pasta on a menu? This is not made up. This is actually happening in a civilised “nation.”

Or these guys protesting the royals. Guess they are beyond being “big enough in character” to let that go eh? It was only over 300 hundred years ago.

If that is not PURE hatred on that face then i don’t know what is.
Plus, you can tell by the age of the younger one saying, “we have been oppressed by the monarchy” that he has been
— programmed — to think that way as he is too young to have formulated that from his own personal experience.
And thirdly, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY… I have said it a dozen times at least, but i’ll say it again. I AM HALF FRENCH myself (yes, that means 50%) so i know of what i speak.
The French side of my family taught me EVERYTHING i need to know about French ways and attitudes. All i had to do was watch and listen during MANY family get togethers. We all have an uncle or two that “tell it like it is.” If you are honest even you can attest to that one.
Especially those moments when you are among them and they believe you are “ONE OF THEM. That’s when you can catch a glimpse of that French pride and inflated puffed out chest.
When you are privy to what they really think of “les moudit Anglais.”
Wink Wink…
Just to be clear. I am certainly NOT saying that all French are like this. There are good and bad that walk among us all.
PS
My car bogged down in some small town outside of Montreal one time and I couldn’t believe that the people there COULD NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL.
Here i was in my home country CANADA and the people in my country could not speak the common language of the country.
And don’t say, “see that’s how the French feel in their home country. Why? Because they are a minority living in A province. The English are the majority living in the COUNTRY. BIG difference.
Besides, In my opinion… If there is ONE single reason that illustrates more than anything else the ABSOLUTE need for Quebec to be it’s own country and Canada to be it’s own country.
THAT IS IT.
Why not. Everyone can then be more respectful of each other because that will be what we expect. French in Quebec and English in the roCanada. Problem solved.
Make it so number 1…
and in the meantime, have a nice day eh 🙂

Furtz……2/3 weeks ago, Debbie Cameron posted about threats they had and how the siding was damaged when someone took down a Canadian flag from their house. She also elaborated about other issues. Check the archives when you have time.

Terrific posts and your points were articulate and dead on correct.
There is simply no reasoning with unreasonable, bias people.

Furtz numerous threats have been made to Chris Cameron and his family ,once on here but numerous times from different venues .
Speaking ones mind should not encourage threats!
But speak to Bob Noble who was running for local MP in the late 80’s and actively spoke up on the unfair language laws ,his children were threatened as well and he had the police stand guard for well over a month to protect his children .
Can one imagine having your children being escorted to school because they were threatened because as a parent you spoke up against unjust laws?
Welcome to reality ask Bob Noble of that experience .
As a Parent Do you think it was fair to threaten his children ?
Wake up, welcome to reality !
Cory wrote: No better is this an example, as comments expressed by the likes of Stella, Richard, HFTT over these last few years supporting language laws, Canada over.”
We support our culture PERIOD!!! If we don’t who will?
again cory wrote: We’re commenting on what we see to be unfair hiring policies. But you’re defending them.
Who are you to tell anyone what to do or think? We have every right to our own opinion in this country. As for your comment about defending them, take the blinders off. Again, we defend
our culture like you defend yours.
again cory wrote: I said in a post over two years ago that for your side of the equation I could call you guys all kinds of things.
You say “COULD” have called us all kinds of things……OMG YOU HAVE CALLED US MANY THINGS. Does DIPSHIT for one ring a bell? The archives don’t lie folks.
cory wrote: This is telling me that you think the status quo is fine and alright.
Don’t assume anything…….think what you want. Besides, we don’t make the rules and nor do you.
cory wrote: This is social engineering. Government hires really even don’t require 100% English nor French now, do they
Question…….why would you be arguing your point with us? Really now….like I said before, we didn’t make the rules. Bring your arguments to the elected officials. THAT WOULD END THIS DEBATE. JUST DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO FOR GOD SAKE.
I HONESTLY BELIEVE YOU ENJOY IT. It seems when this issue dies down for some d@mn reason, it’s brought up again by the freedom fighters. DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO!!!!
It is all that french zealots do, is threaten when they do not get their own way, or when English activists make sense, and thank God, we ( The English ) don’t back down.
Look at their history. For Debbie Cameron to be threatened , Bob Noble and Mr. Galganov, in this co-Called fair we live in today is an outrage.
I dare, say, and I hope to God and pray this NEVER happens, people will start to literally fight back.
I remember all too well referendum night 1995 when the outcome was still in question.
Anyone in Montreal knows ,two very large angry groups were forming and heading toward one another. police and the authorities managed, to their credit to prevent a major riot.
This is why, quebec independence can be achieved peacefully and quietly. There have been very good suggestions made how that can be achieved, while all of us are still talking and civil.
It is evident to all, or should be, that quebec independence will come eventually. Clarity act or not. If people do not believe this ,then have been living in a vacuum for the last 50 years.
quebec can go peacefully, quietly and civilly be independent and go on its merry way.
This ,BTW, is not my first choice, but given the history and persistence of quebec ,in her relationship with Canada and the events of the last ,particularly 20 years, it is time for them to go.
quebec a french nation, Canada an English nation.
Sometimes when things seem overwhelming or one feels defeated, they will try any tactic to gain control again. Whether it’s revenge, a scare tactic, perhaps even a lie, a twist to another’s opinion, when a controller feels he/she is losing control….they panic.
My Question again: Neither side made the rules, that being said….
WHY WOULD YOU BE ARGUING AND FOREVER BRINGING UP THE LANGUAGE ISSUE WITH US? WE DID NOT MAKE THE RULES.
WHY THE NEED TO TRY AND GET THE ENTIRE COUNTRY INVOLVED?
WHY THE PUTDOWNS AND NAME CALLING?
You are targeting the wrong people. This should not be a we and them type of thing. You formed a group in order to fight a cause you believe in…..which in itself is your prerogative and your right, however, your concerns and complaints are directed to the wrong people.

Let’s see…
The Prime Minister
Most ministers (fed and prov levels)
SOME 800 FRENCH ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE SUPPLIED most of their funding FROM THE VERY PEOPLE (the English) that these French organizations are trying to reduce to second class.
The ministry of Heritage to the tune of BILLIONS of mostly Anglo dollars per year.
I could go on… But i believe i have made my point.
**s** wrote,
Again, we defend our culture like you defend yours.
Firstly, the ONLY — perceived — threat towards your culture “to defend against” (if you can call it that) that ever existed was a fabricated one. — (Yes, Fabricated… that means — made up from NOTHING) threat by “your own people” because the French were not teaching their own children the language and culture.
Thus, the “FRENCH” government (both federal and provincial levels) had to step in and force *everyone* to defend the French language and culture (and btw, also pay for it) with unjust anti English style laws in the WHOLE country. So, the FACT is, it is US — the English language and English culture that should be (and now have begun) to defending ourselves.
Stella wrote, “Question…….why would you be arguing your point with us?”
Excuse me but, look around you my dearest PITA — IT IS YOU that has come to
— pardon the intended pun — “our sandbox” and began putting us down for standing up for OUR LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
Need i remind you that this forum is not a French group advocating for the French. The people here initially gathered here as a result of an article having to do with the hospital and it’s newly decided upon (bribe styled) unfair hiring policies which began putting GOOD, DECENT, HARD WORKING, QUALIFIED and caring nurses out of work in their own communities because of ridiculous and unfair LANGUAGE guided unjust laws.
A situation that is increasingly happening ALL OVER THE PROVINCE AND THIS COUNTRY BTW which is why we are involved. Because, whether it is in Quebec or elsewhere it affects THE PEOPLE of our language and culture ALL ACROSS THIS LAND (which incidentally is a land that we fought for and won. Not that this little historical FACT matters to your kind.)
The concerned people have gathered here and it is YOU that came and added your two negative two cents worth.
People gather here who were upset about being pushed aside for the jobs. They FINALLY are beginning to speak out against what the French are — and HAVE BEEN — doing in this country for decades now. The majority English have taken this (out of trying to be kind and nice) for FAR TOO LONG SO NOW. WE ARE BEGINNING TO stand up for OUR LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
So again, just like what’s his name showing up (uninvited and unannounced) at the LFA meeting, (likley out of fear that this movement will catch on) with his had outs, it is YOU that is “arguing YOUR POINT on our turf.” Why don’t you go to some French group that is on the same side as you and post positive comments there instead of hanging out here and posting negative comments here?
Oh wait, i have a VERY STRONG FEELING you’re doing both already.
People like you are trying to dissuade us because you are afraid that we will organize and grow and take back the rights that have be “conned” away from us. Not to worry… There are thousands of people that read these posts and MOST OF US here are doing much more than just posting here and NO… We are NOT dissuaded in the least.
Ah but.. remember. Have a nice happy day eh 🙂

I have taken the liberty of preparing for you the following,
To those of you that have time to take a break and read a string
of posts they allegedly have been the subject of a POLICE INVESTIGATION.
And again this morning it’s been suggested by some posters that a poster on CFN has threatened the CAMERON’S. As fairness, this is the entire event.
I have posted them chronologically in order for you to determine for yourself if there is FACTUAL evidence to support the ALLEGATIONS OF A THREAT.
The claim from the alleged victim is the moniker stellabystarlight
has allegedly threatened the alleged victim and his family.
It’s a bit lengthy, allot of posters had allot of personal suggestions about this alleged incident.
The victim posted twice yesterday and this is his second post,
“ The police intervention has been done in a most respectful manner in a defensive position after some research as to someone’s family being threatened as well as some other things that will not be mentioned in this forum”

Question: Why would anyone even mention or vote for C Cameron? A guy who picketed our hospital time and time again and had nothing good to say about the hospital nor it’s management. Then his secretary, with leading comments, was telling people to call the hospital to let administration know why they were not going to donate. It is thanks to the generosity of caring citizens, that we have an MRI and with a final push, the campaign was successful.
That is the kind of leadership this city needs. When times are tough, the tough get going. Someone who has the city’s best interest at heart and not their own interest first. Someone who shows professionalism when faced with problems and doesn’t create problems for attention.
David Oldham July 1, 2013 at 1:00 pm
@STELLA
What was wrong with picketing the Cornwall Hospital?
The simply undeniable truth is that the administration involved the facility in a VOLUNTARY Ontario french programme and than falsely represented that their hands were tied with respect to language hiring practices which in truth is an absolute lie and misrepresentation of the situation. Placing language before competency and politics before patients has kept me from donating as well. Talk with health care providers, RN’s, doctors and specialists in Ottawa and you will understand that competency comes before politics and discrimination and Cornwall’s reputation is not highly regarded.
Oh and by the way STELLA check out the public charitable foundation for the CCH and discover for yourself how much of your donated dollar actually was available after deducting the administrative costs. Actually everyone should discover the reality, it no doubt would have most people shaking their head.
Mold in the new ICU excellent management and competency indeed. Patients being released with intravenous needles still in their arm and no one concerned or willing to accept responsibility, professional of course. You are right as usual STELLA. However it seems to me mediocrity rules your world.
stellabystarlight July 1, 2013 at 2:25 pm
@David, if you see nothing wrong with picketing our hospital that is your prerogative. Just like it is mine and many other’s prerogative to think otherwise. A true leader does not instigate. A true leader will get things done by setting the example. When actions are done in a professional manner, people will automatically follow. No need for grandstanding and attention.
Credentials and competency are not the only attributes required to fill a position.
All big corporations have large administrative costs, it’s a fact of life. Why only point the finger at our only hospital? Many patients could have a story to tell about hospitals. But many have good stories also. It is not a perfect world we live in.
stellabystarlight July 1, 2013 at 4:39 pm
Well Jules, we do agree on many things, no doubt there, however I wholeheartedly disagree with you on this issue.
What has he accomplished?
Many in Cornwall were upset in the way he handled the hospital situation and the damage done during the fund raising.
A true leader leads by example and doesn’t instigate and get people riled up. You have a problem and feel you have been mistreated there are proper channels and ways to correct a wrong……picketing obviously wasn’t the answer nor the correct way to get one’s message across.
I do not know the man and yes he may be very good at what he does at the Ottawa hospital, it’s his handling of issues that is a great concern.
I have no personal ill feelings towards the man nor do I wish him or his family harm but from what I have seen and heard………enough said.

This is shocking to read such things! Did you report your concerns for the Cameron Families well being???

Mariah…….what about you when talking about our elected officials or the hospital management? Perhaps we will be sharing a cell together someday……..who knows. This is a public forum where people share opinions. If one doesn’t want to be criticized, they should take themselves away from the public forums.
An opinion is just that.
When writing about potential candidates or elected officials or even the hospital’s management and staff, many have shared their own personal opinions with comments and personal attacks.. Many of these fine folks were ridiculed, called names and put down to the lowest with all types derogatory comments.. ……..but that is alright, oh I see!!!
Absolutely no threat intended even though some are trying to make it seem that way. My remarks where to stress the fact that even though. political speaking, I probably would not vote for him, it doesn’t mean I feel any animosity towards the man, nor his family, because I do not know them personally.
One has nothing to do with the other

Why would you mention this statement ?But Stella what have you seen and heard …..enough said .
So you have seen and heard something that is threatening towards this man or his family among your Francophone groups ?….should you not do your civic duty and speak up to authorities if there is any question with the issue you brought up.
Debbie Cameron July 3, 2013 at 9:13 am
I know this is off topic Jamie, but I wanted to share this letter of support in regards to Stella’s disturbing comments towards Chris & our family, “I have no personal ill feelings towards the man nor do I wish him or his family harm but from what I have seen and heard………enough said.”
“When Sault Ste. Marie was in the midst of this kind of situation in 1989-1990, a lot of those who were involved got all kinds of threats. I had a flag up for Canada Day and they came in the middle of night, with a ladder and ripped it down taking the siding on the house with it. We got threatening phone calls, mostly at night. They came to our meetings and disrupted the speakers. One poor soul who came from the Ottawa area was supposed to come to speak to us and was warned that if she did there would be dire consequences. However, we persvered, taking our petition street by street and gathered up 25,000 names. There is a saying that the the only thing we have to fear is when good people do nothing. This is so true and we can point to history to prove it. I appreciate your dedication and wish you well
stellabystarlight July 3, 2013 at 8:39 pm
Debbie, thank-you for sharing.
I honestly and truly understand what you and your family may be going through and sincerely wish you no harm.
Let me assure you that even though we may be not be on the same page when it comes to certain issues, I hold no grudges against you nor your husband.
Jamie….I also am off subject, thank-you for allowing me to respond.
So these are the FACTS ladies and gentlemen. I have read clear comments from stellabystarlight stating that she has no personal Ill feelings towards MR CORY CAMERON OR MRS DEBBIE CAMERON OR THEIR FAMILLY.
I never read a clear threat. The only hint of a reference is in her second comment to Jules and then whole hell breaks loose with free interpretations.
“I have no personal ill feelings towards the man nor do I wish him or his family harm but from what I have seen and heard………enough said.”
What stella is guilty of however, is not splitting her comment in 2 sentences as it reads very different with a whole different meaning.
“ I have no personal ill feelings towards the man nor do I wish him or his family harm. But from what I have seen and heard………enough said.”
“What exactly does this comment mean Stella ?-Are you implying French activist are looking at doing harm to him and his family?” and that gets the ball rolling at all the rest of the subjective suggestive comments as to what they thought she said. When she never threatened at any time.
FAIR IS FAIR. I’m sure that the investigation concluded in the same way any intelligent objective person would. NO SUCH THREAT WAS EVER EMMITED DIRECTLY FROM THE ACCUSED. The only things she’s guilty of is not sharing appreciation in Mr Cameron’s tactics. The last time I checked she has the right to her opinion and to express it. It’s not a crime.
I guess Mr Cameron found stella’s comments offensive and pressed the PANIC BUTTON and called the police to have her removed.
Oh and by the way I heard through the grape vine that there’s another investigation going on about certain people in this group but I can’t speak about it in this forum.
Stella, will come with me the next time I try to navigate Montreal rush hour traffic during construction season on the Trans-Canada Highway? The “handy” info signs were a little hard to follow for a lowly anglophone trying to navigate this great country of ours. So what do you say, are you willing to sit shotgun on my next cross country adventure?
@ Jurgen. I’m riding up to Ottawa on Friday just for something to do. Can you direct me to one or two of those $125,000 fleur de lys flags? I’m really curious to see what they look like.
Thanks.
Another great article to share. The topic is not new but this article mentioned things the original didn’t. IE:
MONTREAL – “Battling bad publicity generated Thursday by news that employees at one of its supermarkets in Quebec are prohibited from speaking English, Sobeys chief executive officer Marc Poulin called the store’s actions “unacceptable” and “totally unexplainable.”
In truth, it is no mystery why a Quebec grocer would think she had the right to dictate what language her workers spoke, even in their free time. She need only take her cue from the state, which routinely sends the message that French must prevail from the schoolyard to the boardroom.
In 2011, Quebec’s largest school board, the Commission scolaire de Montréal, announced plans to make its schools French-only zones.”

“Are you suggesting that the POLICE have been called and will RETALIATE against those that do not express support and share your views in separating a Country in the name of Language Fairness.”
The police DO NOT RETALIATE they are the peace keepers !
They had been advised of numerous threats against LFA members.
Hungry opinions are fine but when threats occur it crosses that line!
“I have seen no evidence in the posted comments that suggest that you or your members have been threatened with any form of personal harm”
There has been a number of threats mainly from other venues .
“I’m a Canadian citizen and just like you, I equally have the right to express with just as much vibrancy, vividness and passion an opposing position to yours without THREAT of RETALIATION or INTIMIDATION.”
Not so Hungry for the truth -You seem to personally take offense when you were not the victim !
Yes HUNGRY we all have a equal right to express an opposing position but there was that” THREAT of RETALIATION or INTIMIDATION’ against LFA members!
“How is your attempt to INTIMIDATE with POLICE INTERVENTION , any different to what so many in this community have found to be deplorable and callus attempt
from city Officials in use of their INTIMIDATION and SUPPRESSION tactics?”
HUNGRY Once again why are you so defensive when the threats were not directed to you?
Attempt to intimidate with police action?what ???? You really are biased go back to the other moniker that represented you so well(live for lies).
So now you are blaming the victims, because threats were directed at the victim and family and they reported this to the police ?
More biased statements from Live for lies -INTIMIDATION and SUPPRESSION tactics?
Once again they were the VICTIMS and yet you claim the VICTIMS are attempting INTIMIDATION and SUPPRESSION tactics?
So the innocent person walking down the road gets hit by the drunk driver and yet you are to blame that innocent person and not the driver!
Hungry do you work for the city for your comments remind me of how the city whistle blowers are treated !
Hey folks Welcome to the reality, here the victim is at fault!

— bill 101 is not anti democratic
and
— the English are well treated in Quebec (CANADA)
People who spew this kind of rhetoric need to seriously consider therapy or some form of deprogramming.
Stella wrote, “ATTACK THE ONES THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE……THE GOVERNMENT.
Once again, i am NOT attacking ANYONE. I am trying to awaken the people reading this BS that the propaganda that comes out of the French and Quebec has a nationalistic “we are better than YOU and “je me souvines” and shall finally over come” agenda.
And this is coming from a people and a province that flips it’s nose at the very COUNTRY and majority PEOPLE who support their very existence.
yorlik wrote: Need i remind you that this forum is not a French group advocating for the French.
Stella wrote, “Need I remind you that this is open forum where all are welcome. Until you become the adm. you have no right to say who can or cannot post.”
I didn’t say you COULD NOT post. I suggested that it is you that are the one making waves and flowing against the tide in a peaceful forum where an Anglo majority (yet again) of people have gathered to speak out against a hospitals hiring policies that are unjust.
We are not in some French forum telling them they can’t do whatever it is they are opposed to. Believe me, if we were they wouldn’t be as kind as the Anglo’s in this forum have been to you and your side.
The majority here share the COMMON link of standing up against unfair “language” policies. both INSIDE and OUTSIDE THE PROVINCE of Quebec.
It is your views that are causing the negativity.
yorlik wrote: People like you are trying to dissuade us
Stella wrote, “No dissuading intended. JUST DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO AND GET IT OVER WITH. NO NEED TO GET THE ENTIRE COUNTRY INVOLVED.”
If the French had stuck with French first, French only and French dominant INSIDE the province of Quebec, this certainly would not be that much of an issue for me and many others.
It is the invasion of French first, French only and French dominant OUTSIDE the province of Quebec that, has awakened the spirit of fairness for the majority in this countey.
The French stretching their sense of French first, French only and French domination OUTSIDE Quebec is, in and of itself what has INVOLVED THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.
Don’t you get it, we (the Anglo majority) are now DEFENDING against a complete take over OUTSIDE OF QUEBEC …
NOT AGGRESSING. DEFENDING.
PLEASE look that up and you will see that your mission is backwards.
Stella wrote, “If you feel so strongly that your claims are justified why the delay in getting things done? The plans for defending this country against French first, French only and French domination are not something you should concern yourself with. Just KNOW that the backwards concepts that those of your ilk (and fellow tongue troupers in this forum) spew are noted by many who SEE RIGHT through the BS.

Could it be the federal language commissioner’s office using comments to affect an investigation?

Is it designed to stop people from commenting?
Hopefully the language commissioners office and Canada Post can get this sorted out soon.

“The police DO NOT RETALIATE they are the peace keepers !
They had been advised of numerous threats against LFA members.”
You are so right police to not retaliate. But people that use the
premise of a police investigation to an alleged offence with
the purpose of instilling the perception of fear, retaliation and
suppression do.
“Numerous threatening actions and all of these comments and actions have been duly recorded by various authorities.”Cory Cameron
“Alas, the proof is in their commenting and actions.” Cory Cameron.
If this is not a warning that infers the use of a police investigation in order to retaliate against “these comments and actions” then I’m going, going… back to University.
“There has been a number of threats mainly from other venues .”
This is not what Mr Cameron posted.
“ There are people who have commented on CFN who have done so against LFA, CLF.” CC…
“The police have been notified due to numerous threatening actions and all of these comments and actions have been duly recorded by various authorities.” CC …
Mr Cameron is directly referring to and alleging that CFN commentators comments are the source of these “numerous threatening actions.” Mr Cameron does not suggest nor infer
to outside or other venues. His innuendo allegations are not about outside sources.
“HUNGRY Once again why are you so defensive when the threats were not directed to you?”
I do not see myself as defensive but rather reactive. I can not bring forth any allegations of bodily harm that has been directed to me as Mr Cameron puts forth in his allegations.
But I do not take lightly innuendo allegations. Then expect from me a tolerance and understanding to unjustified actions of an alleged victim.
That in fact was not violated by any poster in this forum this in itself can incite anyone to react and defend. This kind of antics in my view is intended to suppress opinions with use of a threat of a police investigation on innocent victims. The source of Mr Cameron’sthreat do not come from this forum as you’ve confirmed.
“So now you are blaming the victims, because threats were directed at the victim and family and they reported this to the police ?”
These are your words not mine. Words and interpretations that you are eager to lend, in your craftiness at twisting and demonizing my words.
Mr Cameron and his family may very well be reliving their nightmare from Timmons. They could indeed be alleged victims of their allegations. I feel for them and lay no fault nor blame in their right to report their allegations to police.
What we must all remember is the very important fact that the threats that Mr Cameron and his family are having to defend, do not come from anyone in this forum. They are as you say mainly from other venues.

I made a general statement you made the inference all on your own. Why is there something worth investigating?
“That was one hellova big post but I am still waiting on that research you were to do on American hospitals providing numerous language services …does the truth really hurt that much or has pride”
Ya I know. I hope it gave you a glimpse of your craftiness at work. You sure had allot of inferences on the subject. It was so clever in fact that it almost became TRUTH. When in fact no such threat was never uttered. But, one can be commended on the valiant attempt.
About the USA info I think your onto something good.

So, getting back to Cory Cameron’s letter about his traumatic experience at the Timmins post office last April. First, I hope Cory is recovering and doing OK. I know the healing process takes time, but with each passing day, all we can hope for is one more step on the road to complete recovery. Now, regarding the abusive postal worker who had the audacity to address Mr. Cameron in the French language, I have a few questions. Will this person get a simple warning, or reprimand from Canada Post? Will this person be penalized with days off without pay? Or will this person simply be fired with cause? I’m curious to know just how seriously Canada Post takes the offense of speaking French to Cory Cameron by one of its employees.
Furtz I spoke with a rep of a Crown corporation yesterday and how this person could get this job is beyond me. If I spoke French as badly as she spoke English I couldn’t get a job as a morgue attendant at our hospital; yet this person was the freaking mouthpiece for a National Agency.

Isn’t it ironic though Jamie how bad this person’s English was yet she still was as you term it, “the freaking mouthpiece for a National Agency.”
On a more positive note Jamie, at least you still got served in English; well albeit, somewhat English I suppose!
No argument from me regarding the need to review and change or illuminate all kinds of laws and policies. It should be (and sometimes is) a never ending and constant process. That’s what we pay our elected reps to do. The issue of unfair hiring practices has been around for quite some time, but it’s always sidetracked by people demanding the break up of Canada, or squawking about having to see French on a sign by the side of the highway, or being spoken to in French by a postal worker in a town with a 40% Francophone population. The never ending BS posted on this site by the freedom-fighters ( $125,000/each fleur de lys flags in Ottawa, parrots being deported from Montreal for speaking English, etc) in all seriousness, makes these people look like fools. They are “madly riding off in all directions” to quote a well known Canadian humorist.

admin, you can speak bad french..and get a job in the public service. IF you speak bad english, then its a sin against nature. This story about coreys experience sounds like the story he says about speaking french 55 % of the time, i do love a good fiction.
Mr. tremblay, you remind me of Julie Chen from Big Brother on CBS. She has never said anything about the racism that seems to occur every season, until this year when it was aimed at an Asian houseguest. She spoke out about how she was offended by the comments and reminded how it was to grow up a minority in the US and the racism she herself had been a victim of. After 14 seasons suddenly she’s offended? until it touched her in a personal way she thought it was just a game, good for ratings, and the social experiment the “people” want to see.
My point is it is easy for you to poo poo Mr. Cameron’s story because it doesn’t touch you. It is easy for you to take a stand on a situation, or judge a person without first walking in their shoes. Just because you are happy does not mean everyone is happy. And just because you don’t see a problem with the awesome bilingual services our country provides, doesn’t mean it is perfect and untouchable.
But hey, if want to play ostrich and hide your head in the sand, that’s ok too. It puts your best side forward for all to see.

Richard Admin is not alone in voicing his concern with this regards ,many including myself have called governments services and the ability to communicate in English was very, very poor.
But then again testing in English doesn’t carry the same weight as testing in French and Cornwall Community Hospital is certainly proof of this!

Firstly welcome back bell-b. Missed ya 🙂
Secondly. Great post. It’s also reminiscent of how a republican (known for being pro family and VERY anti gay etc) in the U.S. recently was forced to actually deal with and accept that issue on a more personal level when his sibling “came out.”
Suddenly, with the FACT that he had to REALLY think about the issue on a personal level he could then appreciate that people are people and it is NOT A CHOICE and all the others “realities” about that issue that he had only given a passing thought to when it wasn’t DIRECTLY affecting his life. And, when he was so AGAINST IT.Of course, he is not totally accepting of such things and is voting in favor of things in a completely different “more enlightened” and respectful way.
Funny how people have such an inability to understand and appreciate things that affect others in such harsh ways until they face it personally isn’t it?
If only there were a big red button we could press eh ? 🙂
