Habs Land Daniel Briere Bruins Trade Seguin to Stars – The Eve of NHL Free Agency 2013

Danny_BrièreCFN – The Montreal Canadiens may not have landed their “Big Man” in Vinny Lecavlier, but they did manage to replace  Michael Ryder with a aging star by signing Danny Briere for two years with a buzzed number of $8M.  While not getting bigger Briere does have a history of actually scoring in the playoffs, can play some centre, and is a…Francophone!

It’s a good deal for Montreal in that Montreal.  With Brian Gionta a question mark on Right Wing it’s a good fit.

With Free Agency starting officially on the 5th teams have used more buy outs and the names added to the lists of available players such as former Hab Hal Gill, and Mikhail Grabvoski who the Leafs appeared to have Buyer’s remorse over as did the Bruins who traded star former Leaf draft pick Tyler Seguin along with Rich Peverly and Ryan Button to Dallas for  Loui Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser.

If you subscribe to the winner of a trade is the team that gets the best player new Dallas GM Jim Nill wins the cookie on this whopper of a deal especially as Peverly is a huge support asset who can kill on face offs and adds enough defense to be a very valuable player.

David Clarkson is the Belle of the Ball this year but there are some other interesting players like D man Rob Scuderi, Jarome Inginla, Nathan Horton, and Ryan Clowe.

One of the more intriguing dramas playing out is whether Daniel Alfredsson will leave the Ottawa after playing there his entire career to join the Boston Senators Bruins.

Now if Montreal can nab Jaromir Jagr for a year to play with Tomas Plekanec who deserves at least one good compatible winger to play with during his Montreal years….

What do you think Hockey fans?  Will there be more trades and surprises tomorrow?  Will the Leafs land any free agents other than possible signing Tyler Bozak?  Would you rather have Bozak than Grabvoski?

And will there be more RFA offer sheets?
