Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on the 26th of July, 2013. The man was bound by a Recognizance with conditions to abide by a curfew of 10pm-07am. It is alleged that on the 25th of July, 2013 he breached his release conditions and police were contacted. An investigation then ensued. During their investigation on the 26th of July, 2013 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter and was charged accordingly. He was then taken to courts for a bail hearing. His name was not released as the as the original charges stem from a domestic incident and may identify the victim.
DOMESTIC HARASSMENT
Cornwall, ON – A 26-year-old Cornwall female was arrested on the 26th of July, 2013. It is alleged that between the 20th of July, 2013 and the 23rd of July, 2013 the female contacted her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend by way of text messages on several occasions despite having been warned by police not to. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they contacted the female who then attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was charged with Harassment then released with a court date of the 13th of August, 2013. Her name was not released as it may identify the victim.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT & BREACH
Cornwall, ON – A 27-year-old Cornwall male was arrested on the 26th of July, 2013. It is alleged that the man was involved in a verbal argument with his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend while in the parking lot of a Marlborough Street convenience store. During the argument the man pushed the female on several occasions. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they learned the man was bound by an Undertaking with conditions to keep the peace. The man was taken into custody and charged with Assault and breach. He was later released with a court date of the 20th of August, 2013. His name was not released as it may identify the victim.
SEXUAL ASSAULT & ASSAULT
Cornwall, ON – A 37-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on the 26th of July, 2013. It is alleged that on the 26th of July, 2013 the man attended his 37-year-old wife’s apartment where an argument ensued. During the argument he assaulted her and sexually assaulted her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man who had left the apartment returned and was taken into custody. He was taken to police headquarters and charged with Assault and Sexual Assault then held for bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim.
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, BREACH
Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old Cornwall female was arrested on the 26th of July, 2013. It is alleged that on the 25th of July, 2013 a verbal argument took place between several females at which point one of the females threw a hair brush towards another. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation it was learned that the female was bound by an YCJA Probation order to keep the peace. On the 26th of July, 2013 they located the female at a Brookdale Ave. residence and charged
with Assault with a Weapon and breach of probation. She was then released with a court date of the 22nd of August, 2013. Her name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
WARRANT
Cornwall, ON – Karen Papineau, 51 of Cornwall, ON was arrested on the 27th of July, 2013. It is alleged that she failed to attend court on the 5th of July, 2013 and a bench warrant was issued. The female was also bound by an Undertaking and a Probation order with conditions to keep the peace. On the 27th of July, 2013 while police were investigating an unrelated matter on Menard Ave. the female was located and brought to police headquarters. She was later released with a court date of the 3rd of September, 2013.
BREACHES
Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 28th of July, 2013.The youth was bound by an YCJA Probation order with conditions of a curfew, not to consume drugs or alcohol and to keep the peace. She was also bound by an Undertaking with conditions to follow house rules, obey a curfew and to keep the peace. It is alleged that on the 28th of July, 2013 the youth was out past her curfew when police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they located the youth at a Brookdale Ave. residence and found the youth to be intoxicated. She was charged accordingly and brought o police headquarters to await a bail hearing. Her name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Suspicious Death Investigation by Ottawa Police and OPP
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate a suspicious death upon the discovery of human remains in the South Keys area.
This morning, at approximately 9:00am, police discovered a body at a Bank St. property.
There has been no positive identification of the remains and a post-mortem has been scheduled for tomorrow in Ottawa.
Further updates will be provided after the post-mortem and next of kin notification.

Mississauga (29 July, 2013) — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Sammy Yatim in Toronto this weekend.
Preliminary information indicates the following:
• Shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 27, 2013, Toronto Police Service officers were investigating a male – Mr. Yatim – on a street car on Dundas Street West, west of Bathurst Street;
• There was an interaction between Mr. Yatim and police, and he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A conducted energy weapon was also deployed;
• Mr. Yatim was subsequently taken to St. Michael’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The SIU has assigned six investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident. At this time, one subject officer and 22 witness officers have been designated. As part of the investigation, witnesses are being interviewed and video footage has been obtained. A post mortem was conducted on the weekend.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
- report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
