CORNWALL Ontario – Today is National Hot Dog Day!   Hey why not?  Everyone loves hot dogs, right?  Even vegetarians have their own veggie dogs and sausages.

Looking up some of the history on National Hot Dog Day turns up this info from Wikipedia:

As the name suggests the festivals revolve around eating hot dogs, but usually there are many other activities such as wiener dog races, root beer chugging contests and face painting. Often the proceeds from a hot dog day are given to charity. Industry groups, such as National Hot Dog & Sausage Council in the USA, which designates July as National Hot Dog Month and July 23 as National Hot Dog Day 2009, encourage, sponsor, and support the events.[2] The council also gives advice on hot-dog eating etiquette,[3] which aren’t considered strict, as most Hot Dog Day style events do not adhere to them.

Personally I love Montreal style steamies with mustard and coleslaw.  Many a memory I have of Decarie Hot Dog in Ville St. Laurent; especially while Nick was still there!

Locally here in Cornwall Downtown Diner Spinners is holding an event today at lunch time with $1.00 jumbo dogs with proceeds going to our local  Boys and Girls Club in Cornwall!

Do you like your hot dogs toasted?  With Ketchup? ( YUCK!)

Relish?

Pickles?

Cornwall sadly is missing those amazing hot dog carts that they have in Ottawa and Toronto.

I like hot peppers on mine too or fried onions if I’m having an Italian Sausage!

Happy National Hot Dog Day!
