A 25 year old resident of Cornwall, Ontario, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada after a cat was found injured in a garbage bag inside a dumpster.
The charges include:
- Causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal
- Wounding and injuring an animal
- Two counts of abandoning an animal in distress
- Two counts of failing to provide suitable and adequate food, water, shelter and care
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 10, 2015.
Both cats are recovering well and are expected to be released from the veterinary hospital within the next few days.
Anyone interested in adopting the cats can contact the Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Branch at (613) 936-0072.
“Acts of animal cruelty are taken very seriously by the Ontario SPCA,” says Steve Toy, Senior Inspector. “It is not acceptable to treat any animal in this manner.”
