Cornwall River Kings Sign Three As Pre Season Ends With Loss to Trois Rivieres

CORNWALL Ontario – The River Kings wrapped up pre-season play last night with a 7-5 loss at Trois-Rivieres.

The Blizzard jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and Cornwall could never recover. Despite the loss, the River Kings finish pre-season play with a 3-1 record.

Jonathan Joanette, Michael Stinziani, Nicolas Larocque-Marcoux and Marc-Andre Levasseur had the Cornwall goals on Friday night. Yan Dumontier chipped in a pair of assists.

Pete Karvouniaris played the full game and was tagged with the loss in goal.

Despite the poor start, the River Kings were outshot 16-7 in the first, Cornwall battled back all night. The River Kings ended up outshooting the Blizzard 34-33.

Curtis Tidball made his pre-season debut for Cornwall and had a first-period tilt with Boby Fugere.

The River Kings open their fourth LNAH season with road games in Thetford-Mines on Friday, Oct. 2 (8:30 p.m.) and at St-Georges on Friday, Oct. 9 (8 p.m.).

Cornwall’s home opener is Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Civic Complex. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

In anticipation of their LNAH regular season opener on Friday, Oct. 2, the River Kings have come to terms with a trio of players:

Yan Dumontier: The 21-year-old defenceman from Chateauguay, QC, was impressive this pre-season with five points (two goals, three assists) in four games. The 6-foot-2 rearguard was selected in the 5th round by the River Kings at the LNAH Draft in June.

Nicolas D’Aoust: The 28-year-old forward has appeared in 109 career LNAH games, collecting 100 points (44 goals, 56 assists) and 107 penalty minutes. He suited up for Cornwall in two pre-season contests.

Julien Giroux: The 22-year-old goaltender from St-Eustache has been competing for a backup role in the River Kings crease.

More player signings will be announced in the coming days.
