Heat Warning in effect for:
- Cornwall – Lancaster
- Maxville – Alexandria
- Morrisburg – Long Sault
- Winchester – Newington
Hot weather moved in on Tuesday bringing maximum temperatures of 30 to 33 and humidex values in the mid to high thirties, as well as lows this morning of 19 to 22.
Today will again see maximum temperatures in the low thirties. However, humidity levels will increase bringing humidex values to near 40.
Low temperatures tonight night will range from 20 to 23 degrees, followed by maximum temperatures Thursday from 29 to 32 degrees. It will remain very humid. Shower or thunderstorm activity could bring relief at times to some places.
Some locales along the shores of the Great Lakes will see temperatures a few degrees lower during this event.
A cooler airmass will arrive by Friday.
Heat illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat fainting, heat edema (swelling of hands, feet and ankles), heat rash and heat cramps (muscle cramps).
Frequently visit neighbours, friends and older family members, especially those who are chronically ill, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.
Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
